I've had the engine steam cleaned on other cars and been very pleased with the results, with no electrical / electronic problems.
I am thinking of having the engine cleaned on my Scooby but obviously a bit hesitant.
Has anyone had there Scooby engine steam cleaned?
What do you lot think?

 

All the advice says don't even think about it.....would you steam clean the dust out of the back of your PC?

Also the green waxy substance is actually on the engine to protect it. If you steam clean it you will take this off which will lead to the aluminium engine block oxidizing and going all furry.

I've had the engine bay on my MY95 steam cleaned twice (one due to PAS leak that dribbled fluid everywhere and one for an oil leak ditto). Never had any problems. Bay looked great afterwards and no sign of any "furring"...

Thanks guys. The main reason for having it cleaned is because I have a slight oil leak and wish to clarify where it is coming from and clear the oil of the exhaust to stop the smell. Also would be nice and shiney afterwards.

 

Dont worry, You have a reason to do it. Spend some money and spray some protective spray on afterwards.

 

The oil leak is probably coming from the OSR rocker cover.....

 

I had mine done, and have had no problems since.
Just make sure you cove any alarm electics and fuse box, and keep engine running whilst it's done.

 

you could void your warranty if you blast the engine protection stuff off!

Why not just use some Gunk to get rid of the filth in the area you need to look at? I've used it many times, good at cutting through the grime and not as risky as steam cleaning, though I will admit it isn't as effective as a steam clean, its a good substitute.

 

As for the oil leak this is why you should be VERY suspisious if you go to buy a car and the engine bay is spotless. It's usually because the engine leaks oil and the seller is trying to cover it up!
