Kind of.....It is unlikely they will issue an original 'standard' registration after a cherished transfer has gone.

It has always been the case for me that when my cherished plate has come off, the original one goes back on.

However, it is possible that they can reissue another plate of the same year.

Hope that clarifys it 100% for you

For 12 months you are guarenteed your original reg number back.
After that its pot luck - i kept the same reg after 2 years on my Megane!

99% of the time it does return BUT as said not always..

My classic was R57 NMR (hench the 57 in username) which was not transferable so when the P/P came off it was a different plate. Mrs spec'C's rover also changed BUT my dads S type jag went back to original..

My reg changed as the original reg was held on retention...when it was no longer on retention it was put back into the system and then when I wanted to put my reg on a different car a new reg was issued.

When I bought mine it was on a private plate, it went back to its original registration.

It would be interesting to see what'll happen when I get around to selling the Scoob, whether it returns to its original plate or not. If it does, at least it'll save me the cost of getting the actual plates made up

I have always had a new random number when I have changed. Nice dealer man had to cough up for the plate out of his vast profit margin & just charged me the transfer fee.
