Returned from another great day at Bill Gwynne's.

Just to make life interesting, our usual car had been replaced with a slightly more powerful left hooker. Adding to this was a mixed surface with patches of ice, which made the first session 'interesting'

Thanks to all at Bill Gwynne's for their hospitality, and for taking my children out for a spin, and to Neil for organising it again, even if he did manage to walk off with the end of day prize.

Very roughly, it goes like this.

Arrive 9am ish, Coffee/Tea/biccies.
Briefing
2 sessions (around 5 laps each)
Very respectable lunch
2 sessions
De-brief/prizegiving

The car we normally drive is a group N impreza, with around 250-260BHP, quick rack, non-servo brakes. The one yesterday was a left hooker, with servo assisted brakes, standard rack, dog box and around 270+BHP.

5 laps doesn't sound like much, but it's quite hard work (mentally more than physically), and it's good to get out and get some feedback from the others, as there's usually one bit that you can't get quite right, that somebody has mastered.

Cost were (I think it's changed) £335 if there are 6 people in the group, or £300 if there are 7.

Really good folks up there. Tremendously helpful. I can't speak for others, but I feel a hell of a lot more confident behind the wheel as a result.

You have absolutely no idea how little you know, until you've been there.

Josh - Thanks for those kind words. I just liase with Bill Gwynne and the attendees to get the details to them.

As for the enjoyment Add 1 Rally Prepped Impreza, a Group of 6 or 7 Enthusiasts, A good Instructor,a professional Rally School, a Testing stage and excellent facilities mix together with liberal comments , simmer for a day and the result = Total entertainment and fun.

The only comment would be the number of dead tyres - I think Myself and Zak were trying to wipe 'em all out, whereas Gazzer was just taking out the Bushes .

I did feel a little embarrased about the bubbly but then I thought I probably deserved it as I was the one who could improve the most after the first run .

Hope the Kids enjoyed it and thanks to all for making it another successfull day at Bill Gwynne's.

A big thanks to Neil and the staff at BRGS for a great day, it was a bit daunting turning up to find the left hand drive car ready and waiting for us.
Once in the car you forgot about the gear stick being on the wrong side as you only had to change gear a few times on each lap, Paul still managed to get 1st instead of 3rd more times than the rest of us.

The tuition was excelent but also very critical which was appreciated. It did seem very hard to keep your foot down up untill the last second before braking into bends to get the back around ,totally opposite to track work!!

Having looked at the video of the last runs, we were all within about 6-7 seconds of each other, and Nick, the instructor on a demo lap was 4 seconds quicker than the fastest of us.

Anyway a great day out and a must if your intrested in how a rally car works.

Have been there for the Mk2 Escort day - just two of us all day and yes, it is testing ! Peter Gwynne was our instructor and as people say - excellent.

Have also been to Carno in Mid Wales - The Forest Experience - when it was run by Jan Churchill (now with the Higgins family)and Geoff Jones was the instructor - a lap with him was daunting !
Real forest track and a wide open quarry area with a Mk2 Escort - superb !!

However, where I learned the most was Brands with a FF racer / instructor.
