i got stoped by the police for having a sunstrip on my front windscreen only about 3inches deep and said it was illegal to have on due to restricting the screen and was advised to remove it and let me on my way
does anyone know if it is illegal
i would say he was not telling the truth even the sun visor when down would block more vision

Sounds like a crock to me......

He probably wanted to do you for something but couldn't find a real reason.....

On a similar note; A few years ago I was stopped by the police, similar stupid reason, was driving an Uno turbo back then and the reason for stopping me??
My tax disc was at the top of the screen not in the bottom corner where it (legally he said???) should have been......

Unfortunately there are "jobsworths" in every job.....

Does it interfere with the swept vision? i.e. do the wipers touch it? If they do he may have a point, if not AFAIK he can't touch you.

From the Highway Code:

Vehicle Excise Duty. All vehicles used or kept on the roads MUST have a valid Vehicle Excise Duty disc (tax disc) displayed at all times. Any vehicle exempt from duty MUST display a nil licence.
Law VERA sect 29

From the Vehicle Licensing web site:

A vehicle licence (tax disc) shows that you have paid the necessary vehicle excise duty [VED] for your vehicle. It shows the registration mark (number) and the date up to which you have paid VED. You must display this disc on the left-hand side of the vehicle's windscreen. If the vehicle does not have a windscreen fitted, you will need to display the disc on the nearside of the vehicle (the passenger side).

Nothing about not displaying it at the top.

Thumbs up

Yes but the Road Traffic (Vehicle Excise) Regulations says that the road Fund licence (Tax Disc) will be displayed at the bottom of the windscreen on the nearside of the vehicle.

oooh - it makes me larf; got stopped by the cops in Chichester in a car with low front seats. I had the license taped to the dashboard.

I explained to the cops it was taped to dashboard 'cos on the windscreen it obstructed my view.

Doesn't matter, was the reply - it's got be on windscreen !!
