OK,

I'm getting my windows tinted on Saturday - I was originally planning to do the just rear three a dark (midnight colour), but now I'm think to to all the windows, but of a lighter shade. I'm confused...What do you think would look best...

Cheers...

Cool

Hi,

Personally I think just having the rears tinted looks a bit strange. There's too much contrast between the clear fronts and the tinted rear-end.

I've seen a few cars with a progressive tint. It's dark at the back end and gets lighter towards the front. Looks a lot more ntural and less pimpish as well.

What's the law on this? I though you could only tint side windows?

I think the law is that any rear window (sides and back) can be tinted to any darkness you want. The front sides have to have a minimum light transmission (that is not too dark), can't remember the figure and you can't tint the windscreen.

My head is spinning and I can't make sense of the above??

The windscreen can only have a 35% tint. The rest can be any amount of tint you want.

I prefer the look of all windows done rather than just the rears. All or nothing IMO. I had 32% on fronts and 22% on back & rear looks really good. Not black & pimpy, but dark enough to make a statement. Except on a sunny day you would be pushed to notice the difference between the fronts and back. Vision is fine. Some go for black on the rear window but at night rear vision is severely limited.

How about:

ALL PHOTOGRAPHS COPYRIGHT 2001 DAVID STANDING and remain property of the copyrightholder. Any editing, alteration or modification of the original images is strictly forbidden.

It's a lighter tint on the front sides than the rear sides and back. It's not true M4 that only the windscreen has a limit and the others can be as dark as you want - it applies to the front side windows as well - put a limo tint on them and the feds can do you for it.

Any reputable tint fitter will tell you what is legally permissible and what is not.

Dave T-S,

That looks awesome - although my car is not the same as yours, I think I may go for dark rears and lighter fronts...

Cheers mate.

forgive me if i'm wrong, but isn't tinting windows reserved solely for:- Nova driving boyracers, pimps and limos?

what are youtrying to do with ya scoob? are you gonna lower it and put max power stickers on too? how about modifying the windscreen wiper to park in the middle of the screen?

Pimp tints are great if you've got kids, stops the sunlight in the eyes whinging. I hope to get mine done..depends on insurance co at the moment (too many mods on my car already for their liking )
May go for just rears and back a'la STI, decisions decisions.

this is what I have:

and this

on the blackbeast, basically it's the rear and rear sides that are done

on the list of 'things to mod' I've got it marked down for a full retint, so that'll be rear screen and front and rear side windows, in i think light smoke color, have seen a few wagons with this and it looks great, should look even better with a black wagon as well.

Well slippy, it's lucky I built mine for me and not for you then, isn't it?

I could ask why you want to drive around in a car with standard suspension and no tints....but each to their own, eh?

Care to post a picture of your car.....?

Of course its each to their own opinion and I must say Dave-T-S's Impreza looks stunning with the tinted windows and would certainly turn my head if I saw it on the street - I think the car colour helps carry it off as well.

My car is a dark blue colour and I'm not sure whether the dark tint will come over - so probably go for a light/medium all round..

It was SecurFix (they have been mentioned on the board many times so should show up on a search).

They are based around Hampshire but do travel - they came out to Essex and did ours - top job, and only £200 for five windows

Cheers for the info, I've just done a search on the legal issues of window tint's and found this;

"UK law currently states that the driver and front passenger windows can only be treated with a light tint. The back windows can be treated with any shade. The front windscreen must be free of any shading, apart from a 6" strip across the top"

That was from http://www.autoshades.co.uk/
Can this be true?

For nobbing girls in the back a tint job is ideal, saved a fortune on Hotel bills.

I think that's sort of what I said. That's how I interpret it too.

secufix did mine too, bargin at £200.

limo on the back, med dark on the rears and a bit lighter on the front.

the suns bright in the pic because its normally very hard to see in the back windows (which the kids love cause no one sees them pulling faces at people!)

bit tricky reversing but no real drama.

Thumbs up

Looks good Mark - I'll be in touch and pop down next week to pick up the springs. Hopefully going to get mine tinted soon, so it will be nice to have a look at yours.

Cheers
