Default Best Value for money ECU for MY99

Hi all, thinking of getting an Ecu - remap/ upgrade, just wondering what options where available to me, i was looking at the ESL but they see to be for pre 96 scoobs, i dont really want to splash out £600 or so for the apexi type as i will only be running a full decat and pannel filter no other mods. any advice greatly apreciated!
cheers!

You don't really need to change the ECU on a MY99 car as they already have mappable ECU's, but your still looking at roughly £600 to get it ECUTEK remapped.

Apexi is probably one of the cheaper ECU's on the markets, some others cost £1500+

i feared that may be the answer!!!
im begining to wonder if the re-maps going to be worth it, it's lot of money to spend for little gain, im anticipating to have around 250bhp once ive fitted decat and filter, and would only expect the re-map to take it to about 270-275 ish,

Not really the price of a re-map is not far off the the price of a decent full de-cat exhaust system and filter and the gains would be better IMO.
You probably won't get 250bhp for and exhaust and filter anyway, unless your luckly.

You could always change the turbo at the same time and go for 300+bhp

The cheapest ECU?

I bought a 2nd hand 6 month old Apexi PFC & Commander MY98-00 for £330, if I ever decide to sell it I reckon you could probably get that same amount back.

If you go for the Tek3 option or similar they cost about the same but if you decide to go back to standard there is nothing to sell, ie you cant really get your money back.

I would also recommend upgrading your Turbo at the same time, totally transforms the car.

As turbodean said, highly unlikely you will get 250bhp with decat/filter.

Mine was 230bhp before remap and 273bhp after.

Have a look here, post #106:

Oh, and believe you me it was well worth it, trip home from PS as opposed to getting there was a lot more fun
