Can someone explain what the big thing with Morettes is pls? Personally I don't like them as I think they don't really do anything for the car plus they have that 'bought in Halfords' and I've got a 'maxxed' Nova look about em

I thought the idea was that they were much better than standard lights?

Rally look, no?

MAXPOWER look is cheesey mods (like if they were stick on lamp covers) not stuff like that.

i dont get some of u, anything with some kind of cosmetic modification gets slaughtered. all scoobys (esp p1) etc etc has a "bodykit" thats for looks as much as aerodynamics.

As far as i can see NO car is 100% perfect std even the most super of supercars could b improved in even a small way (if u had the cash!), and modding ur car is to make it stand out from the crowd (esp with a car as common as a scoob).

Some people just want performance, not looks, but most want both, and the ones who dont shudnt slate the ones who do.

And jus for the record, i dont like quad lamps much.

Morettes on the 'classic shape' were for performance. On the bugeye they help with the looks IMHO. I think the MY99 standard lights perform better than the Morettes on our bugeye though. May be that I have to adjust them, but I'm sure that will just end up dazzling other drivers

IMHO on the 'classic' shape they suck, they might be better performance etc but I would rather spend the money on PIAA's or Cibie's...

On the new shape, I quite like the upgrade that the subaru dealers offer and the UK300 looks pretty cool imho, they just 'fit' into place with the new car...

Mattski,

The driving lamp conversions are all well and good, when you have a chance to use your full beams, the only problem is when you go back to dipped beam, and it's like switching the lights off!

The Morettes have a better distribution of light in both maina nd dipped beams. On full beam, they were on par with driving lamps, on dipped beam the improvement is huge.

You might not like the look of them, but functionaly they are great.

Each to their own, it would be very boring if all our cars looked the same!

Cheers
Andy

I'm with Andy on this one. I recently got a set of quads for the blackbeast. Why? well, two reasons really, one, I like the quad look, makes the car look more unique, so in that respect I guess I'm a bit max powery

The other reason is what Andy states. On pre facelift (96?) cars the reflector design is far from good, hence the light quality if not great, even if you put in high performance bulbs (I used phillips vision plus in mine), the post 96 cars had, i think, a slighty revised reflector design, but it's still not great, even with performace bulbs. There is also the fact that I drive mainly on dipped beam, odd I know, but then that's me
With the quads you have a lamp for dipped (and full - properties of H4 bubls) plus the inner lamp is an H2 bulb used only on full beam. To be honest I'm amazed at the difference, even on dipped beam, ok, so I have vision plus bulbs in there, but it is a hell of a lot better than the standard design. and full beam, oh my! daylight!

There is also one other thing, and that is HID. now my knowledge is limited on this, but from what I have read, if you want to do HID, which is way, way better than any uprated blubs, then you are in an interesting position as you need to replace the H4 bulb in the main light, now HID is different from H4 bulbs in that you don't get the dipped + main option, so in effect you only get full beam, no dipped beam, and AFAIK it's illegal not to have dipped beam in the UK. Thus if you want HID you're a bit stuffed. with the morettes however, it's party time as the dipped and full beam are in seperate lamps, so you can have HID for dipped and/or HID for main (wow! HID on dipped and main, hmm, nice! ). so the quad design is a little more practile.

Not impressed with my morettes on dipped beam. Hoping its an alignment problem, the pool of light in front just doesn't seem to reach far enough ahead. The HID jobbies on the wife's Clio 172 are awesome which doesn't help...

Gareth,

I only have experience of the Morettes on the 'classic' shape of car.

It's worth getting the alignment checked out as well as getting some Philips Vision Plus bulbs. http://www.powerbulbs.com For just a bit under £20, the improvement is amazing!

If the beam isn't far enough, it's alignment!

Cheers

My MY98 already had Morettes on when I bought it so I have no opinion regards them being better than standard-apart from peeps telling me they're better. As far as looks go, I'm still not sure if I like them.If there was any chance of getting normal lights with the power of Morettes without having HID,then I would probably change them
As for them being like a maxxed Nova-Arrrrse!

Similar positition to Zip.

My MY99 had Morettes on when I brought it. From some angles I sometimes think hmmmm, not sure. But then, I think they look great at times...

Morettes Suck! Everyone jumped in a bought them because they gave the car a hint of the old rectangular shape, very clever move by the manufacturers, I'm sure they're very happy.

I'm bug eyed and proud, and I care just as much about the comments as I did when I was constantly told that my MY98 was pig ugly.

My 2p.

Well, I've just ordered a Silver MY01 with Prodrive lights (and clear side repeaters and Prodrive Backbox) and think they're pretty cool. Certainly helps to make the silver coloured Subaru stand out anyway.

All in all, style is a preference based on personal opinion. What's good for one is not necessarily good for another. I prefer the Prodrive style lights to the Morettes.

Well I guess it is down to personal taste - I would have to say that they are less controversial than some of the dubious exhaust systems (disguised as as dustbins ) that I've seen fitted to some cars.

When I got my MY01 a couple of weeks ago, it had the Morettes fitted before it even left the showroom. The main reason was looks - my car is blue/black and fitted with the colour coded Morettes, it looks great. I have to say I've had nothing but good comments from people I've met, especially down in Wales at the Rally.

The other reason was performance - fiited with some Osram bulbs, they give fantastic range. I would highly recommend that anyone who feels that they are worse than standard headlamps to get them adjusted. Morettes aren't just about looks (which is personal), but also about performance. I will be having the HID option fitted soon so I hope this will bring an even bigger improvement.

Cheers

Your car does look sweet Chris. Perhaps they only suck sometimes.

Chris,
How much for the HID option and where from. I'd like to consider this myself for the mains on my ex-bug-eye before I go for the Cibie Oscar+ from Scoobysport.

Also interested in the HID option for the reason mentioned above...

Funny, the dealer just offered a choice of bug-eyes, Morettes or Prodrive lights. Didn't know there were choices you could make within the Morettes option.

Normally I really DON'T like the morettes at all. I prefer the bug eye lights.
Yet somehow on Chris's car they work really really well. Must be the colour.

Oi! ChrisL, No!!!!!!! methinks your comment about dustbin sized exhausts might have been levelled at my pride and joy, the max power mobile known as the blackbeast

On the classic shape they look superb!

On the new shape they look better than the originals, but imo they still look crappy but that's due to the shape of the front of the car and there's nowt much you can do about that..........

Markus

I mentioned no names for that reason

It is just a matter of personal taste really.

Paul - speak to your dealer or someone like Scoobysport - Pete Croney has them on his car - expect to pay around £400 for the HID option. They can be retro-fitted aswell to existing units.

They look so much better than standard - they kill the Toyota similarity completely. IMHO FWIW!
