Ford Focus TDCi poor starting
Hi,
My bruv has just bought one of these and I must say it's a stonking good car. Only problem is that it lacks inertia when starting from cold but worse when warm. 40k on the clock now.
Took it into Fords for a checkup and they've told us the fuel pump is shafted and needs changing - £1400's worth! - this is based on the last code displayed by their system.
I kind of find this really hard to understand considering it drives perfectly once it's running.
Anyone been down this road?

It could be struggling to make the fuel pressure while cranking over considering it's an engine driven fuel pump. Once running it will be turning at 3-4 times the speed that it would at cranking speeds so the pressure will increase.

the internals can wear in the common rail fuel pump and they struggle to build up pressure
i would shop around for the pump you will get it cheaper than that
