When I read this: "The system effectively reduces the level of power and torque in each of the lower gears, and it is not until 4th gear that you experience the full power and torque that is made available."
I always feel its like showing a child a big bag of candy, telling them they are all their's! But only handing them 1 at a time, while you keep hold of the bag....
Must be to early in the morning.

Absolute rubbish,i had a LCR with circa 280bhp and that was perfectly driveable....................you just have to know how to drive, and that is considered a "previous generation" of hot hatch, something with a good and up to date chassis is more than capable of putting the power down...............and the new ST has both, which is why there are plenty of people that are saying it could cope with more power.................and why tuners are responding(including Ford, hence Wolf).

You have obvoiusly not driven a focus ST !!
300 bhp is only 50 more than std (most are putting out higher than ford claim)
I have one on hire at the mo and the traction is superb!! and its done nothing but rain since i have had it!!
Easily out handles any stock scoob so you would not have it on the twistys as you lot say!!
Not a match for my AST'd JDM STi though

so your telling me, u dont get any wheel spin in 1st and 2nd gears atall on wet tarmac, bull****!, and this whole u need to drive it right, meaning more gentle imputs on the throttle, to control/stop wheelspin?, therefore not getting full power in lower gears to the tarmac, therefore no point in having 300bhp!, u guys!!

I have a 300hp/330lbft 850 T5 and it is pretty good on the traction front, obviously you cannot dump the clutch in the wet and expect to go, but you don't need to try to hard to put the power down - can't see the problem myself.

If they were rear driven, I guess they would be a lot more popular as they are a doddle to tune with some good results.

Even in standard tune torque is limited in the 1st 2 gears so can lauch without hardly any spin with the traction off. I had 1 for six months and drove it hard and the tyres were coping very well when it went.
Mine was running 248 bhp.

The new Astra VXR is 250bhp,the Focus ST as standard is 220bhp,and you can pretty much guarantee that higher powered versions will be made available, even if it is in the next incarnations of these models,i am not having a go at your opinion,it just seems a bit short sighted if you have never driven any of these models,or in fact a well set up,powerful fwd car.
It wasn't that long ago it was understood that anything approaching 200bhp and fwd was a recipe for disaster....................but time and technology move on.
As stated by others on here that have indeed owned or driven such models, they can put the power down................as stated above, technology has moved on considerably over the last couple of years.
The only "high powered"vehicle that is likely to put all their power down,is one with 4wd.................high powered rwd cars still suffer with traction problems afterall.....................the E46 M3 i had would slide all over the road in the dry from a standstill if you turned the traction control of and drove it accordingly so that sort of thing is not just the preserve of fwd..............thats the point

Wolf have just completed a WR330 Focus on the SToc which the lad his very happy with....he reliably informs that the drive is still very smooth but very quick.

Yes, FWD will never have the traction of 4WD, but having driven a Focus ST I was amazed with the amount of traction it had.
I have a fast FWD car without a diff, and that is a nightmare, especially in the wet
