Can I run without under bonnet insulation?

My under bonnet heat shield/asbestos mat has seen its last day.
Can I leave it off or do I need to replace it.

I asked this ages ago and got no real definite answer......

There may be a concern about the paintwork being affected by the heat in spots.....

Michelle, true ... it may not come off, but you could see some color changes on those spots.

I ummed and arrred about it for ages and have decided not to as I have spent enough on my car already and don't wish to have to repaint my bonnet

You can take it off, but you may end up "crazing" the paint on the bonnet above the hotspots. Still, it will take a while for this to happen, so if it's dangling off or looks cack, I suggest removing it!
