Default Thinking of going back to an evo

Right at the moment i have a 99 uk turbo (few mods de-cat down pipe fly wheel and fillter) tbo there is nothing wrong with my car at all but it's got to that point where it just feels slow. i use to have an evo 4rs and am really thinking hard about going back to the dark side. I know they cost a little more to run and service etc but hey i lived with it once.
Most of the people i know have told me just to keep my car and have it mapped and sort the suspention etc and i would efectivly have the same power ish of the std evo.I've just got it stuck in my head that i could get a std evo 5/6 tune it a little and easly see 330+bhp and to get that out of my scoob would mean spending stupid money.
What do you guys and gals think?

Noooooooooo!!!, dont do it.
You could buy a classic Sti for a lot cheaper than a Evo 4/5/6 and have a better starting point, 270-280bhp, denpends on what sort of money your thinking of spending.

Of course that's if the sti is running octane booster with v-power, otherwise it'll be around the 260 mark. Most V's and VI's were running close to 300 on just uk fuel!

I wouldnt go back to a IV! Weak engines (particularly the pistons) and an un-cooperative ECU..... A V or a VI will make a far better starting point.

Yes generally i think they are meant to be more reliable but once you start tuning a standard engine, you never know when it will let go.
As a personal opinion i would go for a later Sti v or vI and you should be able to get a good one for quite a bit short of 10k.Its just that im not a fan of Evos so maybe im being a little byast.

My MY99 has been modified to a reliable 320bhp for not a huge amount of money. You wouldn't think a classic scooby at that level of tune was slow, I assure you! :-)

My advice: keep the scooby and speak to David at Api about an NS04 stage tune!

I bought my scoob from api and to be honest i did think about going for the vf turbo upgrade like yourself but i'm sure once you added all the engine stuff together ie turbo injectors remap exedy clutch etc etc pluss 4pot brakes and all the suspention stuff i'm into the same sort of money pluss at that power is the gearbox not at it's limets? (likely to let go)

I suppose i could always go for a p1

Before my current state of tune my car was running 330/330 with less than 3k spent, the most expensive parts being GEMS ECU and APS 3 1/2 exhaust system. That was fantastic.
