and *#0000# on a Nokia 7110 gives you the firmware version number and date. I presume there are more of these codes....

I thought I'd put this in 'GENERAL QUESTIONS' just due to its usefulness. I just found this out and thought that it was well worth knowing:

This is for NOKIA PHONES - not sure about others.

Should you ever mislay or have your mobile phone stolen the service operator/insurance company will be interested in the serial number of the handset - I've been told that the service operator can disable the handset even if a new SIM is used. To access the number type:-

*#06#

A 13 to 15 digit number will appear, it's worth keeping a record of this.

Same for Motorola ones too but these details can be reprogrammed into the phone using a PC so it only stops the opportunists.

The number reported is the IMEI number. AFAIK none of the networks bother to keep a record of it, and will not disable the phone based on it. Why should they care? The new 'owner' will have to get a new SIM to put in it, and will then be paying the network for calls. In the meantime, your insurance coughs up, you get a new phone and continue to pay the network for calls.

 

How about 50g of Semtex inside it and remotely dialling it (hoping you didn't accidentally leave it in your back pocket without noticing!!)
