its a total guess but it will get it bttt.

damaged probably to the point where the insurance co classed it as a total write write off and paid out to the value of the car. pretty damn f**ked imo.

cat A and B means the car should never be put back on the road and should be scrapped/sold off as spare parts, cat C and D are damaged but not so bad that they cannot be repaired to a satisfactory condition, and be safe to use, normally nothing structual, mainly panel damaged or partial fire damage things like that, but with the cost of genuine parts and labour to repaire them they can be demed uneconomical to repair... hence written off, have purchased cat c items before,as long as you are aware of the problems that need fixing its not a problem, not sure you would get a detailed report when buying one though.keep your wits about you though

I use to work at a salvage yard.

Cat A - Totally scrapped, not even salvageable parts, normally burn out or flooded

Cat B - Breaker only, cannot be out on road

Cat C - Can be repaired and put back on road, but must be inspected by DVLA first!

Cat D - Can be repaired and put back on road. May need inspecting, but normally just a stolen car with no damage, or very little damage.

Hope this helps!

No prob-lamo!! Glad I could help! Just remember, ALL cars that get written off, will have a catogry, it just depends what damage it has!

Like the others said, its not something to go into lightly!! Most cars go to auction, and we all know what they can be like. You can normally have a look at the cars first, before the bidding takes place. Take someone who knows what is a good car and what isn't, and give yourself a limit, and stick to it!!!!

Good Luck!!
