I tried Optimax last week, I had to go to a Shell garage that hadn’t got my usual fuel so I thought I would try it as people reckon its so good for turbos. It felt great as I drove away and I could really notice the difference. The turbo seemed to spool up quicker and the car certainly pulled harder. Then, after about half a mile the car seemed sluggish and there were great clouds of black smoke every time I put my foot down.

‘If this is what its like with only half a tank of Optimax. I can see why some of you guys have problems’, I though. Went back to old fuel at next fill up and the problem disappeared.

I now feel justified for spending hours reading all the posts about fuel types and the scientific testing of experienced drivers on the BBS. You’re dead right about Optimax!

Are you sure it wasn't smoke off the tyres as your Fabia TD struggled to get the additional power down the Optimax Supplied ?

Imagine the power with a full tank

LOL

Does remind me of a story in the paper a few years back (so it must be true, of course). Apparently a women (but gender is not important here (phew)) wrote in and said that she thought all vehicles should be forced to use cleaner unleaded petrol, starting with double-deckers, as she was fed up with all the black smoke they pumped out.

She had a point though, putting unleaded in a bus would certainly stop the smoke from coming out!
