I'd nver use the RAC again

 

Nothing but good has come from my RAC membership. when called they have always come quickly.

 

RAC for me.... in 6 years they have never let me down!, They have been out to me within the hour and the mechanics are **** hot!, Althougth they do have a call centre /pc backup! lol, but i dont care, they either fix it or tow it, and they always have a smile on their face!

I will just add that they have never been out to our scooby!, just the diesels i use for work..............................
As for value me and the wife pay less than £90, for both on any car, even as a passenger!, I can not complain about that!, (they even go out to women/women with kids as a piority, which i think is excellent, i'd sit on the roadside for an hour extra if i knew a woman/or woman with kids were stranded on their own.

prices look the same. although rac do have the no claims discount kinda thing which appeals.

THe RAC had the word "Royal" in it, so having used neither, I would like to think the RAC is better!

Worked at an independant garage for all of them and id say britannia rescue are best good value for money and use independant garages so quicker and more helpful!

 

RAC by miles , never had anything but BAD experiences with the AA. And if you get the wife to save up the Tesco vouchers the RAC is free aswell .

I had the same problem.. After discussions over on RB5oc I ended up with the RAC. Option 1, where they will flat bed you anywhere in the UK. But you need to push the car 1/4 mile away from your home if it doesn't start in the morning.

 

Go for the RAC. They will recover the vehicle on one transport. The AA replay system is worse, where your vehicle could be loaded/unloaded onto several transporters with resulting risk of damage etc.

I once had a problem with a BMW & the same day, the RAC turned up with a flat bed & took it straight to Glasgow all the way from Bristol!

 

They're both crap. I've had good and bad experiences with both. The only ones I could recommend are Direct Line who got me home on a flat-bed truck all the way from the Nurburgring back to Suffolk. Best £25 European breakdown cover I ever bought LOL

 

The RAC for me, only had to use them a few times but always been quick and helpfull when they have turned up.

 

The AA does a discount for SIDC members

I've been with them for years - my only complaint has been that they insist on sending out one patrol to confirm that yes, your car is knackered, and only then do they call out a flat bed that can transport a 4WD car.

 

Direct line rescue are a rebranded part of Green flag. Same recovery service (independent affiliates) just different rates and person on the phone says "hello direct line?" instead of "green flag".

Also includes The caravan club's "mayday" service - which is also Green flag (rates sometime work out cheaper with the carvan club - even if you don't have a caravan )

I've used both BTW both good service. Had a little gripe last time when I said I was broke down at a Esso petrol station, but the dispatcher said it was a Shell station. But the guy found me as it was the only petrol station in that area. Also they sent a tow truck instead of flatbed, but all the flatbeds were out on call at the time, so they dispatched the tow truck to see he could do anything (which he couldn't). Flatbed arrived within 10mins of the tow truck leaving anyway.

 

I've been with the AA for nearly 3 years, they seem to have more coverage than the RAC, however on average they do take around 30-45 minutes before your seen to.

Definitely AA. They won the last JD Power test and Which? as well. They fix more cars than the RAC and are quicker to arrive. They use less garage agents who actually fix less cars than the AA patrols. They also prioritise for motorway breakdowns and lone women/kids in the car. Might cost a couple of quid more than the rest, but you get a better service.

Oh yeah, I'm biased as I work for them !

You must really learn to read previous posts, Then you would not look so silly!

 

the RAC i'd say, i've got it for my road rally car and used it once up to now, the AA don't seem interested in collecting competition cars if they break down on a road rally which is on public roads, no worries with the RAC though, the guy turned up and put the rally car on the back of the truck and brought me and the car home, top result.
