I'm trying to get a decent set of mud flaps and side prot. strips for my MY00 without having to pay thro the nose for them from my local dealer.

Can anyone suggest where I might go for a more reasonable price?

I think if you do a search, there is an article that suggests a Focus (or was it Escort) side protection strips will fit a Scoob. However, check with your dealer, it might affect your warranty

 

Subaru now do proper mudflaps for the Turbo that fit the contours of the side sills, rather than the old lumps of plastic that don't stop much dirt/stones. They are about £100 rather than £200 for the old ones.

Hovever, Halfords do flat black Cannon mudflats at 2 x £6.99 that can be fitted relatively easily and do stop a lot of the dirt/stones. They don't look too bad either (at least IMHO)!

I really think that all new cars should come with side protection strips and mud flaps as standard and I usually fit them if not already fitted!

Although I haven't yet fitted a side protection strip, as I would want a fairly narrow black or grey one for my DBM MY99.

Maybe a Ford one would be the answer, if there is one that come in the same size. I seem to remember reading something about it being a Mondeo one, though.

If you have a 2 door, Subaru do side protection strips.

I've ordered a set for my P1 which are being sprayed blue so they blend in.

Total cost inc fitting etc = £270.00

I've just fitted the Prodrive mudflaps to the front arches of my 5 door Sport. They were exactly what I was looking for - not to obtrusive. They were originally made for the Prodrive WR conversion to the P1 with 18" wheels. They are black rubber flaps (part no. SACC 2145) which attach to the existing fixings for the plastic wheelarch mouldings. If you can imagine a miniture version of the WRC flaps(!), but they do not extend below the level of the plastic sill skirts. Total cost was £17+VAT. I thought the side protection strips were about £40? Seems reasonable enough to me.

I've got a set of the P1 mudflap thingies coming as well, £8 a pair, gotta be better than the rooster tails my new 17"s are creating up the side of the car!

 

I got a quote from my local dealer in August to supply and fit the side protection strips. It broke down as follows:

Protection Strips £42.51
Labour £53.50
VAT £16.80

TOTAL £112.81

This seemed a little on the step side.

 

I've been looking for a set of full Rally type mud flaps for ages but have drawn a blank. Any Ideas?

£270 for Subaru side protection strips to be fitted!!! I know that their colour coded but that sounds like a lot to me. Do they charge you more as you have the 'superior' impreza or something!?!?

I bought mine from Subaru for £45 and fitted them in 30 mins, they really are easy to fit, not colour coded but still.

Those Prodrive mudflaps sound good, especially if they are £17 + VAT.

 

GGR do proper full monte rally mudflaps in a varity of colours.

 

...but bloody expensive!!

 

Buy a copy of Motoring news for about £1.50 and look in the back pages. Plenty of places sell rally parts, including mudflaps for the scoobs. They should be a lot cheaper, and are virtually indestructable.
Or you can buy the material in sheets and cut them yourselve to fit the car. I've four rally size mudflaps on my Evo - cost: £14

How are they fitted?

The ones I've seen on rally cars are bolted onto the actual bodywork with metal brakets, etc. Don't fancy doing this to the scoob?

Is there another alternative?

Just fitted the Turbo flaps to my TypeR. I have to say that they were expensive, but they really do the job, and use the existing holes in the wing. The front ones do hang a little low and they occasionally catch on sleeping policeman.

If I'd have known about the P1 flaps I might have saved some money! Never mind.

On the whole, I'm happy, but roll on the spring when I can take them off again!

MY00 with muddy sills

 

MRT do uretane rally flaps for 45,-AUD/pcs.

 

The evo has some handy speed nuts at the rear of the wing edges that I 'borrow'. Although a small bracket (copywrite Heath Robinson) is needed for the front. No Drilling. Anything similar on the scoob ?
My friends WRX came with STI mudflaps and appears to have some brackets that simply clamp between mudflap and existing bolts.

don't get too excited mate the Prodrive flaps are literally two bits of flexible "rubber" with some mounting holes in. Having said that they are a doddle to fit using the existing wheelarch liner clips and a steel clip that comes with the flaps and they actually work pretty well.
Are they worth £17+vat? Probably not but hey they're made by Prodrive and considering the cost of the alternatives I'd recommend them.

 

I fitted my p1 flaps today and they are fine. the back ones has to be altered as theres only two holes and three bolts on my sti.

I'll take some pictures and post them on monday, but you can hardly see them and they blend in really well.
