That's way too high. Either the gauge is over reading, or you could have an issue.

What does it read at idle ?

Thanks to all beforehand. The reading i get from the spa gauge is as follows.Idles around 20psi when warm, cold its around 100psi.The peak reading of 138.99psi i got came about from what looks like a blown oil filter, the gasket being damaged causing me to lose all engine oil.Normally when driven somewhat hard i got figures around 100-120psi.Hope someone can shed some light with what might have happened. Thanks to all

139psi isn't unusual if you were to rev the car hard from cold. I would be more worried about the idle pressure of 20psi when hot. It should regulate to about 85psi, and you should see 85psi by 2500rpm if not sooner.

139psi, and a blown filter seal would indicate the pressure release valve may have stuck shut.

Have you started the engine since the loss of oil, or was the engine damaged ?

Have'nt tried starting the car since,as not sure if putting another filter on,the same will happen again. What might account for the low pressure readings Paul, any ideas and might this just happen again if i were to put another filter on and start up the engine.Seem to have heard many reports of oil pumps, could it be the problem? Thanks again to all
