I am looking at buying a 2nd hand car which was a Euro import through Bob Gerard.

Anybody know what paper work should be with it and any way of checking if the 3 year Pan Europe warranty is intact and will be honoured by the Subaru dealers?

The car appears to originate from Cyprus and is on a 55 plate, the certificate of conformity and the service hand book stamped by the original Cyprus dealer is with the car.

It has had the 1000 mile service with a UK Subaru dealer.

 

You need to contact Subaru Customer Services at IM HQ. They will need the VIN to confirm if it is reg'd with them. I had dealer telling me mine wasn't even though I had a letter from IM stating it was. After a call to CS with my VIN info they confirmed it was OK. Another call back to dealer who was told it was, they made some excuse about they looked at wrong database. I heard that recent cars are not sent a letter to confirm. So you need to ring them.

Car should come with warranty and service booklet from the originating Subaru dealer in Cyprus. PDI should also be stamped by Subaru Cyprus dealer.

Also certification for CAT 1 alarm system - you need this as evidence for insurance company so you can demonstrate it's done to the same spec as Subaru UK.

Any Tracker documentation - if fitted ?

I have now looked at the Bob Gerard web site and they have some bargins on 2nd hand WRX wagon's!

Rubbish - never had any insurance company ask for proof of the alarm (only proof of the tracker).

Make sure the service book is there...

 

Rubbish - I think not !! If your car is stolen and insurance company realise it's an EU import, then common sense says that they could be very interested in the alarm certificate. Best to have the certificate just in case...............

 

Firstly, my car is described as a Euro import with the insurance.

Secondly, the car insurance is declared without an alarm. Insurance company only wanted to see proof of the tracker - as they know it hasn't got an alarm.

To be honest, how much use is an alarm anyways? How many times have you phoned the police when the alarm goes off on a car down your street? How many false alarms have you had?

Best form of secuity is to get the car out of sight IMHO...

 

No i have been asked for proof of alarm by an insurance company before. but that was there as was the Tracker paper work.

 

Going to get the VIN number any body know the contact number at IM to call and check?

 

IM number for checking VIN number is ......0121 2241685..they will tell you if it's on the database. ( the bloke there was very helpful )

If you want to register your VIN then ring 0121 5222000, they will give you instructions.

mine is a 52 plate euro import. i needed the original purchase invoice as well as vin etc for IM. luckily the dealer in holland was very, very helpful and faxed me a copy of the original invoice. IM were helpful too, when i got through to the right person. i had a couple of things sorted under warranty with days of chelmsford - they had to call IM for approval to undertake the work prior to it actually happening which took a week or so

warranty concerns probably wouldn't put me off buying another euro import. i just need more power

 

when i had my Sti the insurance company i had asked for a copy of my certifiacte.

I was asked for proof of my alarm by A Plan so who speaks rubbish ?

 

Called IM but the car isn’t registered for Pan Euro warranty.

I asked if I could be sure that the warranty would be valid if I bought it and then registered it but they said they didn’t know.

So now trying to decide!

 

Typical Subaru UK attitude I must say !!

The car would have come with a 3 yr pan euro warranty from Subaru Cyprus - so it's a valid warranty - no question about Subaru UK having any say in this. You need to make sure that the warranty / service book is present and correct.

You need to check if the warranty terms have been adhered to otherwise Subaru Cyprus may not be able to honour the warranty. If the terms of the warranty have been broken, then Subaru Cyprus would not authorise Subaru UK dealer to do warranty work - you'd have to pay for it yourself.

 

As far as i can tell they have. It has had the 1000 mile service and i think the service book said the next service is due at 10,000 miles?

does that match other peoples cyprus imports?
