a good powder coating outfit will more than likley have beed blasting equipment on site. so for an hour or two's labour charge i would guess they will prep the wheel or wheels for you.

Might be an idea to try posting this in the regional area at the bottom of the BBS home page

Maybe worth speaking to your local Subaru dealer. I had mine done for circa £250 +VAT

Bournes Power Coatings based near Birmingham City centre, try a search under your local yellow pages as I have lost the contact number.

£15 for each alloy, they are shot blast cleaned & then powercoated finished with clear laquer.
Not sure if they will get the excat shade of gold your after but they should have some samples of finished work.

Try Rigga on here as he was the last person I know who used them to have his wheels coated gold in colour.

I had mine done about two years ago by Derby Sprayers,Alfreton Road, Derby, they did a brilliant job (i think it was about £50 per rim, not sure though) they did have a problem with the paint though, aparantly ordinary gold wasn't available, wasn't a problem for me as i wanted a darker /caramel gold, they had half a box of powder left wich was just enough to do the job, there is a new owner now so not sure of the quality....GOOD LUCK

Cheers..................Tony..

at SEM wheels in Sunderland, its £25 to £45 per wheel, thats for the removal and refitting inc balancing of the tyres as well.

Not sure if thats powder coating though, its what ever the OEM finish is though

I had a set of wheels powder coated, never again.......

If the wheels are painted when new and there are any imperfections, low spots or high spots currently hidden under the original paint, then these will be highlighted when powder coated.

I used a reputable wheel company and the finish on two of my wheels was crap. This is mainly due to casting imperfection which you cannot see, until the paint is striped during the process.

The wheel refurb company only really consentrate on fixing curbing by sanding/smoothing the edges.

I actually sanded one wheel down and got rid of the imperfection, then painted it. This finish was smooth, but not the right colour or a good enough finish, so I decided to powder coat the lot.

The one that I had smoothed still came back with imperfection as I had only sanded and wet'n'dried the paint/casting to be smooth. When the paint was stripped the casting still had high spots, so was highlighted when powder coated.

However, if you use a mobile wheel repair service any imperfections would be sanded out or filled with primer filler, before painting.

The wheels in question where Compomotive MO's which apparently are notourious for being poor castings.
