Im gobsmacked at times reading posts such as "should i get a P1?" and inside there is talk of 29k cars and "i can get it now but should i wait??" sort of talk

im just interested as im on a decent wage and have a cossie but with a wife and kid on the way, i have no money at the end of the day, and can only assume either most of you: have had a huge inheritance; on 60k a year; or struggle look hell!!!!

Just wondering if your doing something right or im doing something wrong

Mate - I'm not on 60k, but got a decent salary. Don't have expenses (such as wife) and no kids (although I was worried for a while when the PA at work got up the duff - hee, hee!)

I'm taking a loan for the P1, but got a McRae as part exchange so thats taken the sting out of it a bit.

Plus I'm 33 so insurance is okay.

I'm on a crappy wage, but then I run my own company so what can you expect?

Anyway, I saved every penny for 4 years, sold my previous car and took out a 7 grand loan to buy my scoob as a Euro import for 17k

Insurance is a stinger (I'm 30) as is the fuel bill, but I love the car to bits and it's got to be one of the most fun 5-door cars on the planet.

By waiting until I was vaguely grown up enough to afford one.

Anyway - your dead a long time, can't take it with you, sieze the day, if you never have the courage to do what you want to do you will never achieve anything, etc etc

I for one do not want to say in years to come 'I wish I had done........'(insert whatever it is you are thinking about here)

and don't forget to negotiate hard with whomever you are buying from (oh and IM's finace rates are negotiable btw so don't believe what the dealer may or may not say!)

Just Fecking Do It

I'm a freelance photographer, so I can hardly say I can 'afford' the P1, I just struggle on, like most people.

But if you're going to have an extravagance, it might as well put a smile on your face

Thumbs up

I hope to get a P1 when I move house. Circumstance has left me with a house bigger than my needs so I'll be downsizing soon and using part of the equity. I'm 28 and been working hard in IT for 6 1/2 years. I love my Rover turbo to bits and, treating my car/s as my hobby, I will justify to myself the expense of running two cars.

I also never married my ex or had her name on the mortgage, so I kind of covered myself a bit

How did afford my car? well, sold my old one (at a big loss ) and then put the rest of it on credit card.

If I had the money I would purchase outright, but, like most of us, I don't

alternativly, do over a couple of post offices. Then theres the added advantage that with the scoob, you have a reasonable get away car. Speculate to accumulate.

My dad gave me mine along with an allowance to run it. I thought everyone else on here was the same, or in IT (but that bubble has burst for some).

Seriously though, I have a wife, kid, mortgage and one income so it's tough but it's got to be done. I also did rather well with some shares to start me off....

Wanted something like the Scoob for years (looked at Integrales, Cossies etc) but always held back for one reason or another, then finally decided to take the plunge before I turned 40. Worked hard, saved the pennies, then found out I'd got enough to pay for one. Test drove one and the rest is history...
Biggest regret (after 6 months of BIG smiles with the Scooby) is that I didn't get one years ago.

I am 21 (working in IT )

A good salary, some savings and a nice bank manager means I now own a modified MY95 WRX.......

It all really goes on how much you are willing to sacrifice, my isurance is over £2000, but at the end of the day, you only live once, I did not want to drive a fiesta/escort so I took steps to own a dream car....

Its costs me a small fortune every month, worth every penny..... If I hadnt bought it, I would have regretted it, pure and simple.

I was nearly killed by a drunk driver 5 years ago, So with the compensation I bought my dream car, Takes away some of the pain that I have to live with everyday for the rest of my life, And mine is my toy It comes out at weekends (sorry if that is not good enough for some of you) but where I work people would damage it and would not give a toss, Thats why I have a Nova for work.
Cheers

I have a set of 3 mile twisted lanes that approach the motor way I need to use to get to work, which us used largely by BMW and Merc drives, what a way to start your day. Teaching them a lesson puts a smile on your face, and if your happy you work harder, etc etc.
