I'd been saving for mine since March 1999. The wife kept saying, "If you really want the Impreza that bad, then you'll have to save for it. Your NOT taking out a loan".

I picked my MY99 up on September 28th this year. (2 and 1/2 years of saving)

Every bit of overtime, every bit of loose change, every bit of birthday money, any bonuses, a beer session once a month, 1 magazine a month, no new clothes etc etc. (Ok slight 'porky' on the beer and clothes front ;-) but you get the drift)

It was hard, but boy was it worth it. My only regret is not starting to save a year before ... could of bought a new one!

There's a football team with a moto "Audre Est Facre", which means "If you don't try you'll never succeed".

"I pimp out my ho's"

Fair enough, that explains the RS Turbo, but tell me, how do you afford the Skyline?

It doesn't matter if you can afford it or not.....once you have a test drive you will HAVE to have one!

I reckon that Subaru dealers must do the least 'selling' as most people that go in are enthusiasts and all they need to do id sell the extras.

Cheers,
Darren.

I am 30, in IT, earn loads and get £450 a month car allowance and 15p per mile - and mine is still on chucky !! Why spend your own money when some muppet will give you £20k at 3.9%. Stick your doe in am investment with a better return and enjoy. If we all drove Mondeos life would be pretty crap - After a hard days work, nothing cheers you up like driving a Scooby.

These cars are a sickness, I can hardly warrent and afford to run the scoob standard, let alone all the money I spend on mods, it has caused much worry, suffering and heart ach ( for both me and the wife), but seems worth it every time i am behind the wheel.

Work hard play harder as they say, got a MY96 3years ago. Borrowed the money from mummy and the bank. If it was a choice between the car or the house well the house would go first.
Dont go out drinking anymore, spend that on tyres and petrol and more petrol

i'm 32, and i can tell you, its getting feckin harder in the gigolo game,i'm so in demand i'm knackered the women these days are SO demanding

how do i afford a fast car?
i run my own small business. i dont take holidays. i work 6 days a week. on my day off i do my books and have a blast and waste time on this bbs when i should be doing diy or summat
i dont drink, i dont do drugs. i dont buy clothes unless i can wear them for work.i've got no kids. i dont buy anything really, apart from super unleaded

ask yourself this...
how much does a good night out cost a week? multiply that by 52.
how much does an average person spend on clothes a month? multiply by twelve.
how much does your annual holiday cost?
how much do your kids cost you?
well, thats the insurance taken care of, and the fuel maybe.

i'm not rich, not even well off, and i never will be, coz i spunk every penny on motors.love 'em to bits

We've had this type of post before, and it's rather annoying to say the least...
I've got an average wage, a wife and child, 3 bed house and a Scooby (MY95 5dr).

I work my *** off to keep everything I want. As do most people on this bbs.

If you want one, I suggest you do the same and stop whining.

It's not what you earn in how much you spend :

Don't buy wallpaper, visit B@Q every week and take a sample sheet. Within six months you'll have enough to paper a whole room.

Don't buy loo roll, take some home when you leave work. Remember extra if anyones coming round.

Save on modem bills. Splice into the neighbours phone line and use theirs.

Don't get sky TV. Place a large mirror in the garden and watch your neighbours.

Why buy dinner. Go to Asda and eat your way through the try before you buy area.

Any I've forgotten ?

LOL what a bit of a tw@t you are! whether you have his this post or not before doesnt concern me, I obviously havent read it before and so I posted the question. The other 49 have answered fine and YOU are the only one who is whining, so if you dont like it, dont read it and dont post on it!!!

I dont want a Scoob, I currently have a 330bhp Sapphire Cosworth (that leaves Scoobs for dead on motorways ), and I also have a Fiesta RS Turbo. I have a wife and kid on the way and earning around 30k I wondered how others did it!!! Most have done as I thought, either they not married or dont have any kids, or still live at home with there parents or saved up hard etc, does my head in when people like you have to tell me that I shouldnt ask a question like this cos it didnt suit YOU yet you still felt compelled to read it and answer it!!!! bad luck for you if your not in the situation others are in

Big car loan, job in IT and live at home - no dependants, no mortage, economical girlfriend . Wonder how I've managed the repayments over the last few years, about to refinance the car and buy a house. And grow up

Does every Scoob owner work in IT!! I'm an internet designer and I'm on an OK wage. In a relationship but not married, no kids, rented house. My girlfriend lives about 45 miles away so plenty of scooby miles (and credit card receipts for petrol!!). I got the car before I met her but I think I would have still bought the Scoob even after I'd met her. Theres something that just makes you find the money to run a scoob and do mods.

Good thing is the girlfriend likes the car as well so she puts some petrol in it just to go for a cruise somewhere!

Seems that way... I work in IT (CRM), GF with a big wage, no kids everyones in my house happy. At the end of the day I've wanted a Scoobie for years, decided it was time to stop taking the sensible option get one! Where theres a will theres someone willing to lend you the money, and like the man says finance at 3.9%!

Whats this about an "IT Bubble" anyway?
