Default Fuel prices

What's going on in the world that is driving up fuel prices ?

Our local Tesco were busy updating their prices today while the wife filled her car up. She paid 96p/litre of diesel but as she was leaving the guys adjusted the price board to 99p/litre.

So much for an economical car.

Nik.

Brent crude tops $70 a barral for the first time ever today!!

I filled up this week and paid 6p/litre more than I did at the same garage less than 2 weeks earlier!!!

Looks likely that regular unleaded will be around 100p/litre by the time Labours fuel tax increase comes into force in September

Petrol is up almost 15% already this year - rising almost as fast as gas and electricity prices - but hey its ok - inflation is still only 2% according to Labour, so no need to raise interest rates yet! (yeah right!...)

I dont think you are allowed that sort of protest legally anymore - Labour introduced some new laws so that anyone having a blockade can be forcably arrested (even if its a peaceful protest)

Yeah!!

Like the last pathetic attempt at a blockade and rolling road block worked

You'll all pay whatever it takes ........

If fuel was a REAL issue to you then you would be driving a diesel at 60mpg and not modifying your cars so that they do even LESS mpg than standard!

You're all talk!

I bet you vote Labour! This guy seems happy for UK living standards to keep on falling

Some of us believe in progress, and we wont be voting for Tony and "crash" Gordon.

We do have a diesel but that doesn't justify the excessive cost of fuel in our wonderful Kingdom compared to most other countries around the world.

Seriously?!! We've gone a whole 4 weeks under Labour with NO tax rises?!! - come on, you must be pulling my leg! Im sure they must have at least sneaked in a couple of new stealth taxes during that period?!

And what about Septembers fuel tax rise? Do we blame that on world markets too?...

Really? No tax rises ( stealthy of course ) slipped into the budget? Methinks a doseage increase is required Pete!

22nd March. Yes, that is LESS THAN 4 weeks ago.

Source BBC.

Number 1.

Hidden tax increases
Income tax thresholds have been increased by inflation - but because earnings are rising faster than this, more people become higher rate taxpayers every year, without the chancellor having to do anything spectacular.
This is a hidden tax increase for middle-income Britain.

Number 2.

Employers
There is a real shock in this budget for businesses who lend computers to employees. From 6 April, new loans will attract a tax charge of up to £200 per employee, plus national insurance.
This comes hard on the heels of an active Department of Trade Industry (DTI) campaign to encourage employers to provide these computers.
Either the right hand of government doesn't know what the left is doing, or else the Treasury have just torpedoed the DTI's Home Computer Initiative.
Either way, it is a nasty surprise for employees and employers.

Wages of teaching staff has increased hugely over the past 6 years, massively over inflation!!

The wages of Teaching Staff is the ONLY reason why schools budgets get into trouble .... don't try getting the Teachers to cut their pay to help the school, it won't happen!!

Teaching Assistants are paid £8k a year, whilst working the exact same hours as Teachers who earn an average of £34k ..... it is bordering on being criminal!

the petrol price increases are bad, but i luckily i dont drive it all week, i have a ka for work use. Fewer cars on the road as a result of price increases doesnt sound too bad though!!
