Planning to spend three/four days in southern Scotland, may make it to Loch Lomand - any suggestions for accomms or good roads to try?

Many thanks

Accomms - don't know - do you want to stay anywhere specific?

Roads - gotta try the "Devil's Beef Tub":

On the A74M Juntion 15 (Moffat) take the A701 to Edinburgh. 40-50 miles of excellent twisty road

Paul,

There was an article in the Telegraph a few weeks ago about a good drive up through the Lakes, on the A6 over Shap, rather than charging up the M6. Might be worth considering to break up your journey.

Leave the M6 at J36 (Kendal) then take the A6 north via Shap, Penrith and rejoin the M6 just south of Carlisle at J42. About a 50 mile treck over the hills! I used to live near Carlisle and the routes through the Lakes are nice and twisty with a very nice view too!

Just watch out for Plod on the Beeftub road. Motorbiker got caught at the weekend for doing 96 and has been charged with dangerous driving.

As far as hotels are concerned, Cameron House on Loch Lomand is it. Quite expensive but worth it.

Agreed m8, one of the best roads ever.

I'm doing the same at the end of November, but on my own so I can drive like a fool

I'm doing Bradford - Ullapool - Thurso - Bradford over 3 days (1 up, 1 across the top, 1 back) which I'm really looking forward to.

Anyone ever stayed in Thurso or Ullapool and can make any recomendations?

Cheers,

Steve
