MY 99 Turbo Estate - will need a clutch

Fount this article (http://home.nycap.rr.com/tmat3/clutch.html) but its for a 2001 2.5RS - is it much different to a 1999 2.0?

Got the tools, space, and mechanical knowledge to change it myself (although the last one is debateable), is it worth saving the money and doing it yourself?

 

It is a hard work job rather than technical. Brute force is an appropriate term...

Don't know where you are, but API almost do them while you wait but only charge about £200 ish.

I've done mine 3 times, and £200 is very good value for money.

did my clutch/flywheel, and bearings in the transfer box last weekend..As 911 comments, brute force required if the box hasn't been out for a while..
I did get the bits from API as they are local...great for advice and support

Having spoken to a few local places, who quoted £500+, that sounds like a good deal! Will get on the phone tomorrow

Was looking through some reciepts that came with my Corolla AE86 the other day, turns out it went to API a few years ago to have an imported engine installed, maybe I should ask for a refund as the head gasket went some 6 years later

 

£500 for a clutch fit??????? I know it's a big job but......

If your going to attempt it yourself, take the engine out rather than the gearbox, it will be quiker!

You need a two post lift!!!! Makes the job....ohhhh so much easier!

Nothing particularyl difficult other than breaking the gearbox free of the engine. There are a few little tricks that I wouldn't have known and it would have taken me a couple of hours longer without knowing them.

All in all, took about 4 1/2 to 5 hours (with plenty of cups of tea)

 

Just one point, if you do have it done at API, the magazines in the reception are FAR more interesting than the town they drop you off in for four hours

 

Actually, pulling the engine isn't much worse, and far easier to do in a regular garage (you'll need an engine hoist though)...
It'll end up cheaper to drain the coolant, rather than replace the gearbox oil (I don't reuse either really)..

/J - can pull an engine in a couple of hours taking my time, it's the same time as removing the gearbox..
