Just wondering if anybody knows what oil Subaru UK recommend for a standard 1999 UK Turbo?

10w40 semi synth.. Green bottle from your local halfords, nice and cheap.

 

As a newbie I would probably look in the Owners Manual - see if it says in there

Well, when I bought my '99 Uk Turbowagen new and rang IM Technical they recommended 10w-30.
However when I rang them again, in '02 I think it was, they then recommended 5w-40. Not at home at mo so not quite sure of second date.
I have used 5w-40 since. Totally standard btw.
Make, type and spec is your choice so long as it meets Subaru recommended spec as a minimum.

 

5w40 is a bit thin up at opperating temperature, better for the turbo IMHO but not as good for the engine

 

I thought the Turbo had its own Oil? If not, what is the dipstick under the Intercooler for?

I clearly have a lot to learn from you guys

Thats the gearbox oil.

Good grief, never heard of that before, is that the same oil as the front diff then - or has the front diff got its own oil?

The 5w40 is just as thin as the 10w40 at operating temperature.
