Question Advice please UK300 to 02 STI

After 4 and a half years I have considered to change my UK300 PPP to something else. Have always like the bug eye STI in the Prodrive style since new. As I understand Subaru made around 750 of these with approx 100 being in blue/black micra. Went to main dealership this weekend to test drive one that came up on the subaru website. 1 owner 28'000 miles, PPP with tints, gauge pack and blitz nurspec R exhaust for £15;995. Got offered £12'000 px for mine with 28'000 mint one owner from new. STI has few marks & chips on front which dealer offered to re-spray. Went for a drive nice, little more firm although I have Prodrive springs, F&R strut brace and a cataloge of whiteline goodies and Alcons. Got to a clear stretch of dual carriage way and booted it expecting a thumb in the back which didnt really happen, was quicker low down but not sure if it was quicker higher up the rev band. Got back and checked service history and PPP certificate so was defo PPP'ed. Only thing that came to mind was the Nur spec had the bung still in it, would this effect the performance or just noise levels. And adice would be gratefully received.

Nigel,

I have a bug eye STI with PPP.

Have also driven a WRX with PPP (04MY) which would be similar to your UK300. To me, the STI feels considerably quicker.

£16,000 is a bit steep, you should have no bother picking one up cheeper than that.

Would the dealer give you pound notes for your 300? As 16k would buy you a
04 plate Blue STi 12k, PPP, Prodrive 18" and spring kit off here (not my car).
IMHO a better deal if you can get yours sold.

Matt thanks for the link, already seen it, its a minter.
I do think 16k is top but to be fair their dont seam to be that many around in dealerships.
Does any one have any info as to wheather the bung in Nur spec R reducing performance or could this have been a poor example and not making the offical Prodrive power targets.

Maybe the dealer has 95RON in it. Also remember it's a 6 speed box so gear to gear comparisons are difficult.

Nigel

To answer your question, i would say removing the "bung" would definately affect both the noise and performance although i would say you would only notice the increase in noise.
I am having the same dilema having owned my uk300 from new although i opted for having mine tuned at xtreme scoobies, its now 280bhp.
Do i trade in my beloved scoob, knowing it from new, no problems, and cough up an extra few grand for another which is basically the same and not knowing how it has been treated by its last owner.
Im thinking at the moment, ill keep it or trade it for a WR1. If your gonna buy another, you might as well notice the difference.

merv.

I'd suggest that this is the most likely reason. Even a Non-PPP Sti will feel faster than a PPP WRX owing to the more aggressive power delivery, even though in actuality, the WRX PPP is marginally faster. If you're comming away underwhelmed by the STi PPP then something must be up with the car. Was it a long test drive? Remember, the PPP pack means that the car won't deliver its full performance until it's warm as a safety measure and if you combine that with 95RON petrol and a short test drive, you'll get a seriously distorted view of its ability.

Ive had a hayward and scott de-cat system, green panel filter, hotter plugs and a re-map by phil herbourne. It goes well, not been left standing anyway. Have a look on piston heads for wr1, a little cheaper than main dealers and still with warranty.

Sounds like another prase for Xtreme then. Did you have PPP before or try PPP'd car. Only had mine on the rollers once made 242 but goes much better since then . 24.5K for WR1 was for private sale.

The STI was warmed up, but maybe I should have got to try it down some B roads and not around Cardiff City, like I say did got to try it down some dual carriage way just not the explosion of power i was hopeing for , but your prob right about 95 RON fuel, I know in mine how much difference it makes between Optimax and standard 95 ron pump fuel. Got back in my PPP'd UK300 which although feels more slugish lown down under 4k prob due to gearing and the 5 speed box felt just as quick above 4k and up to 100. I think another test drive in another PPP STI is called for as a comparison.

My car was completely standard, no ppp. 210bhp standard if i remember right before i went to xtreme. The main noticeble difference is in mid range.
Let us know how u get on with any future test drives
