You can put all the shell stations as POIs on Tom Toms. I've used it on my old PDA and Navigator and now on my 'One'.

Don't take this the wrong way but, would drive 30-40 miles out of your way just to find a shell garage on your travels.
Would you consider taking a risk and putting regular unleaded in your car as a one off
I have put regular Tesco in my STI when Opti not available and noticed no difference. Last year i went to watch the Rally of Wales in a mates highly modified Evo which is normally ran on the finest petrol but in Wales in the middle of the night choice was limited to say the least. As a result we put say £20 in rather than filling up until we could find some good stuff and the car was spot on.
I would never let petrol stations dictate my route but maybe i live on the edge
As i implied at the start, i'm not being funny, i just find it amazing the lengths people will go to just for Opti.

 

Lots of tests done recently in various mags and tv progs about the pro's and con's of different fuels. Optimax is coming out on top in most of them. Both my old my99 uk scooby, and my new my03 sti uk scooby have been mapped for optimax. I will go out of my way to fill up, and will drive 10 miles to get cheaper optimax than my nearest shell, thereby negating the cheaper price
I have put tesco ul in the other week, for the very reason that I was lost, in Wilmslow ffs!, and had no choice , BUT, I didn't start booting it down my usual country lanes, or start doing 100+ kph on the motorway with it in. I've done that with my old motor, with sul bp in, and the cocklink went mad

Optimax all the time for me, not had the oppurtunity to try Tesco sul yet.

i think theres to much hype over optimax i use tesco 99 and have no problems what so ever and its always cheaper than shell

Why do you want to put in petrol which goes off when stored for any length of time. I do not rate Opti****e because it is so variable. I cannot understand the hype on this BBS regarding this fuel when there are now so many Super Unleaded retailers available:

BP Ultimate 9/10
Esso 97 8/10
Murco 97 6/10
Total exellium 8/10
Sainsburys 9/10
Tesco 99 (yet to test)
Shell Optimax 2/10

I am editing this because some of the less intelligent readers may imply that I am saying 9 out of 10 retailers sell Ultimate for BP for example. The rating is actually the scientific testing of my right foot and perceived power advantage and therefore a rating out of ten in my opinion (which you should all consider seeing as I have over 40 years driving experience).

Sorry to have to bore the intellectuals for this minor flaw in my posting.

 

Having seen the results of a cossie engine on a dyno testing Optimax, Bp Ultimate, Tesco 99 and unleaded in Banzai then the results turn your ratings on their head as Optimax was able to have the advance increased by 3 degrees over the original setting of 13 degrees advance. As you say 'perceived power'. There are so many variables that will affect the actual running of a car that the only consistant method of testing is just as Banzai did. I'll stick to Optimax as lots of positve results compared to a few negative results speaks for it's self. Steve

I will still stand by my statement along the lines that You will NOT notice a difference between 97 and Optimax

 

Just to add figures to back up what I initially posted. Tesco 99 gave a bhp of 521 with a torque of 421. BP Ultimate gave bhp of 530 and torque of 428. With SHELL OPTIMAX posting 537 bhp and torque of 434. These numbers are facts, gut feelings or perceived power are not.
