Excuse me for being so bold, but I guess you have a finger sized hole?!

If it was only a small perforation, you can get away, temporarily, by rubbing a bar of ordinary soap over the outside of the hole...........honest!

This is a very old fix, but it works, I once knew a guy who did this to his RS2000, and it lasted 3 years, and then he sold the car!

A mate has just fixed this on his Impreza wagon, had an old piece of rubber filler pipe (between metal and tank) from a Montego (don't ask), cut out the rotten section and used the rubber pipe instead, instant fix!

Filler tube is the best part of £100, I was quoted this as the fixings have rusted off mine causing the cover to drop off and rub against the tyre.
The workshop manual for the bugeye says you need to drain the tank to change the pipe but I'm not convinced.

Seems to be a not too uncommon problem.

Different car, but when this happened to my old golf i had to drain the tank as the rust particles get into the tank and try to block all the fuel ways causing it to run like a sick pig.
Pain in the **** as i had to drop out the rear axle to do this

I would drain it as i wouldnt want **** in the fuel in my scoob

well i changed it this morning took 5 mins! yes it does run like a sick pig im gonna run it dry in the mo and get in to it through the sender in the boot and change the filter. the power is there BUT only with small amounts of throttle so i recon the filter has clogged up as when you floor it, it struggles!
