Last weekend I almost bought a WRX PPP with 18" PFF7s.Got insurance quote over UK 00Classic which was £50 more.It had a Tracker
Didn't buy that car but found one with standard 17" alloys and no Tracker. £50 more to insure.....

But if you don't declare them and it gets smashed up who knows....

its a tough one, many of the keyboard hero,s will say fit em and say nothing,

its never happened to them, or its a minor mark up...

if you fit em and say nothing and have an accident, and the insurer sees non standard wheels, tata insurance policy.. some class even fitting bigger oem wheels as a mod and again will ramp up premiuims, others wont cover em !!

its your call,

I'm sure if you went to A Plan, Greenlight or Keith Michaels who are very knowledgeable about mods, alloys would make little difference. Liverpool Victoria I believe will still accept alloy wheel mods and towbars, but no other mods.

Keith Michaels don't like Alloys. Was with them on my STi PPP. I then wanted to fit spring kit and PFF7 alloys. They wouldn't cover me so I had to change to A Plan.

Always declare any changes you make. As above, it's just a all to easy excuse by your insurance company not to pay out if you crash it or it's nicked.

What happens if you spec up a car with dealer options, i.e a/whels, sat nav and leather. Should you declare all those bits?

again some insurers wont cover or will load,

they run on book data so a standard car / trim will be a xx cover, the goodys you add wont be covered in the event of a write off,

its to stop you buying a base model having an "cough accident cough" and claiming it was a top of the range model, or had loads of dealer extras.

Arrow Extra cost for me going from 16's to 17's although....

Tesco did ask how much to replace them & had several bands which were different cost. I have read the policy & understand that not declaring the mod will invalidate the insurance.

It seems a bit grey, my insurer insisted that a different wheel if it was 'factory fit' was ok, but as most Subaru accessories will be 'dealer' fit are best declared and will probably increase premium, especially high value stuff like sat nav.

With my Prodrive wheels they eventually agreed not to load the policy as they were not 'aftermarket' and the value was no greater than replacing a standard Subaru alloy..

Tesco's charge me an extra £100 for my alloys. I think they work it out on how much to replace them. Told them £1500.

Speak to your insurance co, they will either let you have the alloys for nothing or hammer you
But basically, anything (inc accessories) that changes the car from factory standard needs to be declared.

suprisingly, if you buy manufacturer alloys, they can be let off with no extra cost on your insurance, if you say they are manufacturers alloys. a/m ones usually add around 10% load to insurance.

Hmmmm only if the manufacturers ones are off a factory car, ie putting STi alloys on a wrx etc but even then they may add to your policy, if you go for subaru accessories then you will have to pay extra as 1200 quids worth of alloys is a lot for the insurance co to pay out for

just to correct you on this

just because you've not declared a mod doesnt mean you're gonna have to pay for anything out of your own pocket. Insurers have a legal liability with these sort of things. Worst that would happen is they would charge you the difference between the price you paid, and the price you should have paid with the mods, and will probably back date it till the start of the policy.

Thats assuming that you dont do as i did, and swap em back before the assesor came

you,d have been fooked if you twatted me then ,,, the first thing i did was out with the camera, and piccys went to his insurance co. then how do you deny the undeclared mod??

insurers, have long gone past the backdatring the payment to the start of the policy stage, its far cheaper to void the insrance these days
