I'm thrashing the old Scoob though France to the Alps at Christmas. This is usually a good run on the Autoroute then onto the twistys with extra ice and snow!!!

The French plods seem to be extra hot on speeding at the moment and the rules of the game has changed. It used to be that the motorway was a great place and you took your chances on the rural roads. Then it was only a small fine and on your way.

Now if you are caught 40 kph over the limit you loose your license on the spot. Also they are being super sneaky and hiding in all sorts of places to catch you. It makes our bunch look quite civilised.

Chap at work showed me a map of known sites but the scale is no good to be useful.

Anyone got any place to get more info, Tomtom POIs would be good.
Suburu dealers POI would be good too.

 

I got stopped in Belgium this year. I was asked to donate 175 Euros. I was nearly stopped in Germany and France as well. In Belgium if they catch you over 100mph its a very big fine (I was 99mph) and over 125mph they take your car for good

They use unmarked cars and they hide...

To be fair, the Alps are nowhere near Paris, so I fail to see how the two are linked.

Public order problems affected large areas of France not just Paris. In fact over 300 towns and cities suffered rioting and unrest of one sort or another.

 

Human behaviour is pretty instinctive and the police are no exception.

If I were a senior french plod, I'd be looking to show my worth.........

 

I've made the trip to Chamonix many a time. The route blanc is fantastic, just dog it. Anyone in the way, flash them and they'll move over (very unlike here). Managed 12 hours door to door (Bristol to Chamonix) in my GTi-R. 110mph all the way on the frenchy side. Normally allow 15-16 hours for the 750 mile trip.

There was warning of average speed cameras and they get you at the tolls, but nothing came of it. I also heard of someone being stopped and showing a video warranty card for a license, and being let off

I found mappy.com very good for the french route. It lists speed cameras and also shows pictures of the signs, rather than just the names. Don't know if that's any help?

 

What is all the GREY AREA with FRANCE etc as many people say they can only fine abroad as the authorities can't issue points outside their country?????? Is this true????? Anyone had any point given to them from abroad???

 

At the moment any points/endorsements are not "transferable" to your UK licence; however I believe they are looking at changing this..

The Isle of Man falls into the category as well and thankfully they are not looking at changing that!

I didn’t realise they could take your vehicle from you permanently now...

Last year we made the trip from Lyon to Northampton on the bikes in 9 hours hours...drained several tanks @ 140-170MPH and even got up to (indicated)190 at some points, which meant re-filling every 25-30mins.

French roads are just awesome, I love the place.

Shame the plod are getting more serious and sneaky about speeding
