are u getting the same mpg from tesco 99 ron

i filled up with opti and millers

then filled up with tesco99 and proboost

i though i drove in a very similar manor but i lost 1/4 of a tank over the same mileage (commuting not on boost)
a friend said a similar thing

In the porker I normally get about 220 - 230 Miles a tank on Optimax. (Before the light comes on)

With Tesco 99 the refuel light has now come on at 148 Miles.

Pretty much same type of driving.

Even when in Germany running on 98 Super doing silly speeds I've never had it that low.

I thought my gauge was misreading at first!

 

Have to say I'm a litte sceptical about Tesco99. Had a similar issue when I used BP Ultimate not so long ago to get me home from a place that had nothing else on offer.

Been using Sainsbury's SL for a while now and I get around 250 miles to the tank, approx 50 more than I usually get from mixed mode driving.Can't explain that but what I do know is that it isn't as hard on my pocket as, say, Optimax.

Have also noticed a big drop in MPG since using Tesco 99 Ron over the last few weeks in my 05 STi PPP.

Have you considered that with this ice cold weather you could be pushing a lot more power, high ron fuel and ice cold weather make for lots of power but unfortunatelY your economy will take a hit.

Personally I'm loving the added thrust

Have just started using my local Tesco for 99RON. Have only put it my usual weekly amount, and MPG seemed about the same to me?!

Doing 'spirited' driving, but also a lot of crusing around off boost/lowish revs.

 

During the summer I used 99RON a few times and got an extra 25 or so MPG from a tank over 97 RON

 

mmm yeah i get more mpg to, plus tesco stuff is ment to be bang on 99ron so dont know why there is all this talk about it being crap and not as much mpg must be the way your driving, you do know if your in the wrong gear ie to high it uses just as much fuel as when you boot it

I think the poor mpg lately is due to the cold, not necessarily the fuel, and cold starts are the enemy.

During the summer I was using 99 RON now and then, but mostly Optimax. The Tesco tanks gave consistently about 20 miles more range. One long slow trip I got 320 miles on Optimax. Doing more or less the same trip a week or two later on Tesco's gave 353 miles before the fillup. That's an STi 2.5...

Yesterday I filled up at 240 miles - and it had been a tank of 99 RON.

LOL .i wish i could get the same type fuel per gallon as a lot on here .95 wrx sti wagon 1.1 psi ,full decat and a few other things .i hit high 180 miles from a full tank on any bloody petrol i use ??

 

There seems to be an amazing difference of opinion on this fuel.

Using Tesco 99 I noticed a slight increase in fuel economy (Classic Impreza) over Optimax without adjusting any settings on my Power FC. This was a pretty steady journey using Tesco on the way there and Optimax on the way back (full tanks).

I have been able to increase the ignition advance slightly using Tesco 99 RON compared to Optimax. However, I haven't used this timing advance in my experiments to test fuel economy with these fuels.

Has anyone considered that the effect of the increased noise by using a more volatile (so it has been claimed) fuel which may be affecting the knock sensing part of the ECU, thus retarding the ignition instead of advancing it? I was officially told that it is a more powerful burn and may increase the engine noise.

Just a thought.

 

Can't reply to this one as the scoobs not been out of the garage for over a week down to the crappy weather but who cares i just use the other car i mean why don't you buy a diesel if your that worried.

 

Regularily get over 300 to a tank full on 99ron, not heavy footed though

 

Wish we had tesco 99 to compare it to optimax. But i would have thought its more than likely to be the cold weather affecting the results, or at least partly, as the rear screen heater uses fair bit of power.

Some one else made an interesting comment about using too high a gear can actually be bad for fuel economy. Is this the case?? When im driving slowly i allways change up as soon as i can as i allways thought it would be more economical even if the engine was labouring a bit. Might have to change my driving style. Anyone know for sure??

 

I've seen improvements (not significant though) using Tesco over Optimax on a standard UK MY99.

I asked Tesco for some idea of where I could get 99RON in the County Durham area and they suggested I drive to Stevenage or Winchester to fill up !!! so the mpg they expect must be awesome.

Therefore Ive not had a chance to try this stuff, but using Optimax over 95RON stuff, I get another 30-40 miles to the tank on average in my MY04 WRX and I can really tell the difference, boost and general running wise. My driving is a mix of commuting and the odd gallop, but with 9 points on my licence its more of one than the other.

 

My local Tesco's has been shown as having the new stuff for a couple of weeks and the pumps are there ready but they are all covered up 'out of order' ..... guess I'll have to keep slumming it with Optimax !

Getting around 29/30 mpg. But my car's a standard uk 98 wagon. Plus i dont drive it hard.

 

my mpg is down a bit, but at 89p minus 5p a litre, who cares!

I think its partly down to driving more enthusiatically because there's a bit more power, parly because it seems to be using more at idle, not sure why.

My boost gauge usually reads minus 10 psi at idle, but with tesco 99 ron it reads minus 9 psi - I've no idea what the numbers mean though!

 

My mpg went up by a huge amount in the first tank now back to normal. Usually get about 241 miles to a tank and it went up to 275 before the light came on....

 

Can't say I've noticed any difference mpg wise between optimax and tesco. I can get 300 plus miles out of either on long journeys.

 

Are you people perhaps driving any differently with Tesco 99RON?
I get a lot less knocklink activity compared to 97RON, which results in me using the loud pedal a lot more.

 

Yes, but you can adjust your CockLink to light up whenever you want ....... this is the number 1 reason why it is about as much use as a 1 legged man in an **** kicking contest!
