My P1 has been the love of my life (sad but true), but the cons to owning such an extravagant motor are out-weighing the pros. For financial reasons it must go and i am stuck with the dilema of what to go for next.....

I am thinking civic type R or clio 172 cup. Have prev owned a CTR and it was stolen and i really feel drawn to the idea of having another. There is no doubt that the cup will be more fun to 'drive' but the civic has more to offer...i.e. looks, reliability, better build quality, much nicer interior, better gear box, better seats (a real issue with me). Then there is the dilema of potentially going for a new face lift version. I havent driven a cup but i am going to check one out to see what i think. I jave been in my mates clio extreme (1.2) which feels flimbsy. noisy and looks truely dreadful inside!!

So come on... lets have a show of opinions
CTR Vs Clio Cup (172)

(dont fancy a 182 cos i think they look **** compared to the 172 cup)

 

The Clio Cup's interior is virtually the same as a Clio 1.2's interior! Its crap! And its a Renault!

The New Civic Type-R isn't being realised until well into next year.
And then there will be the Civic Type-RR!

Wht not try the new DC5 Integra Type-R?
(like they use in the BTCC)
It has the same engine (although higher tuned) and gearbox as the Civic Type-R, plus it has a much better interior and seats and looks twice as good!
They are only available on import though.
I have seen companies in the UK selling them new for £11k

 

If you loved P1 so much but costs are out of control, how about a new WRX or STI?? Got to be better than a Clio or CTR. IMO.

 

I went from a P1 to a 22b. Now ive sold that too and am getting a scudo van and a 205 gti, saving an absolute pile of money!

 

But you can't take it with you when you're gone! I'd rather leave a broke smiling corpse

Hi, I can't recommend the 172cup enough. They can have some issues with build quality - mine had a niggle with the engine mount which is a known fault.
The interior is dull but perfectly acceptable. Everyone who hasnt had one will tell you how crap the interior is and that parts will be falling into your lap. Mine is fine after 40k...
The CTR is fine, but the handling and steering feel are extremely poor compared to the clio. Straight line they are evenly matched.

 

I will second that, have just moved on to my wrx from a 172 cup that i had for just over two years and can safely say the car is a hoot.
Really responsive and handles well. The interior is ok just looks dull, and I did not have any problems in the 2 years of ownership.

Go for a drive in one you will not be disappointed.

 

Just sold my MY00PPP - having decided that I could use the money I was spending on fuel, insurance, servicing etc and get a young blonde mistress and pay to keep her in a 1 bedroom flat!.

Gone for a Passat 130 TDI - going to look across at the lights and think not 'how much faster I am than you' but 'how many MPG I get more than you'.

Sad day but goodbye Subaru ownership, it's been expensive

 

I'm sure one day that I will give up the Scoob one day but it will to be move up the evolutionary tree not down, what a shame that you have to move from such an accomplished car to something so pedestrian.

I nonetheless can understand your reasoning and would therefore suggest a remapped 330d Sport, perfect blend of economy performance and handling, it's not going to be as accomplished as the scoob in latter 2 points but is a decent car (can also cain a standard blob eye WRX in a straight line at motorway speeds, I know because I did it)

 

yeah I know - not an easy thing to decide. Job change means a 65 mile round trip to Henley everyday so deiselville here I come

U could get a JDM CTR, they are cheaper than uk ones, same engine tweeks as the integra DC5 and u can get them in white with white wheels!

 

Seat Ibiza 1.8 T 20V Cupra with a AMD Remap.

 

What makes me laugh with the JDM CTR's is that beside the Type-R badge, they have a Union Jack Badge to signify that there are made in the UK!!!!

 

I had a facelift CTR before moving on to the Scoobs, brilliant car, which I would`ve kept longer, had I not needed 4 doors for the bigger family.

Having driven both versions, I felt that the facelift was the best, as it had more torque (or it was better placed in the rev-range at any rate) than the pre-facelift.

Sorry, can`t comment on the Clio, never driven one.
