If memory serves me right, you do the odd bit of drag racing?

In that case, dont waste your money IMO.

I ran a Borg and Beck clutch in an MY01 with 300BHP and it was perfect, avoid the over priced organic clutches if your car is a daily driver.

Borg and Beck are decent clutches.

I cannot recomend the Borg and Beck because i dont have one fitted, so i dont know what they are like, i was just saying i'd had a EXEDY Organic Fitted only a week ago and it is awesome. I also believe they are good for much more power, also i believe EXEDY Manufacture these and are rebranded by other manufacturers.

I had it fitted as part of a group buy, Exedy Organic 3 Pice, Lightend flywheel, Fitted £670, you would have to check with API for prices.

Howerver Ive fitted many Borg and Beck's and never had a problem with any of them, not in scoobs though.

thanks for your replys. yes P20SPD. i do dragrace and im on the hull site. hope to do some more in the new year

i had a standard clutch in the car since i bought it 14 months ago and to be honest ive batterd hell out of it very suprised its lasted this long. from hundreds of standing starts to fast road abuse its done well. (you watch ill get it out and it will be some gold plated,carbon thingy worth millions )

i think ill go for that borg & beck as its more like my price range + fitting isnt cheap and i dont want to wait/save for ages. i want it fitting now.

i have done my partners clutch 2x in her pug 106 but thats diffirent to a scoob.

There is nothing wrong with the Borg and Beck clutch for a standard or lightly modded WRX/STi Classic shape.
£250, supplied and fitted same day here in Darlington by prior appointment.

IMO they are not up to drag racing abuse, which stew has done, and no doubt will continue to do so in the future. I would prefer to have a fit and forget, not a fit and prey it stands up to the abuse it will get thrown at it.

yer true but my budget says get the b&b clutch (and i have bought it now). harvey if id of known m8 id of had one from you. shame. do you have a site of your own?

and p20spd i know what you mean. ill proberbly do 4 events next year but from now ill be saving a little more for the next one. not expecting this to last but if it gives me at least a year ill be chuffed

I can't comment on the relative merits of the Borg and Beck, but I also have an Exedy organic clutch (and I'm still only on std power). It's a very good clutch, very OEM like to use, but I'm assured will comfortably take much more power and accept abuse. I don't do drag starts on my car, but I wanted a clutch that would comfortably take more power and be tough enough to last ages.

If you are drag racing your car then I would respectfully suggest you buy the toughest clutch you can afford. If you buy the cheaper option and it gives up the ghost then you'll only have to buy the more expensive one in the end and given the cost of the B&B clutch and the labour to fit it, it'll end up costing you a lot more in the long run!

There is nothing wrong with the quality of the B+B and it will do occassional drag races. I know fist hand at 400bhp.
If you want to go drag racing on a regular basis, go for an AP Racing Organic Uprated and pay the price.

well its just fast road and only limit myself to drag starts where it counts (on the strip) so ill be ok. i dont have a massive spec like others.

Harvey, I don't doubt you about the B&B, but isn't the AP Organic basically just an Exedy re-branded, as Exedy hold the patent on that type of clutch?

BTW I would like to ask you about ported headers and wrapping a decat down pipe as I was considering getting this done prior to a remap at some point and heard you were the man to speak to Specifically, what does porting the headers involve and what are the benefits. Also, can you advise on costs for porting the std headers on a MY99 and wrapping a decat DP. Is the latter something I could do myself fairly easily?

Having justed changed my car i have a Lateral Performance paddle clutch which i no longer need. Will definately stand up to drag abuse....

It is used (only a few thousnad miles tho... less than 5 iirc). £150 (have a nice matching billet flywheel from Lateral too for the same money).

Exedy/Deakin probably manufacture the component parts for several clutch companies but the two clutches are different to look at. ie It is not the same clutch rebranded. (Just another Scooby myth destroyed. ) I don't know anything about who holds what patents.

Let's not hog somebody elses clutch thread. You can e-mail me and I will give you as much info as possible on ported headers and related items and you are welcome to put as much of that in a new thread if you wish.

guys ive noticed that on my clutch it says exedy even though it came in a b&b box? whats with that?

Originaly manufactured by Exedy but tinker'd with by some one else, i know (due to API) AP for instance have 6 springs where as Original Exedy ones have 4 springs. They are just manufactured at one source then bought by other brands.
