SVA Import Approval for my Type-R!
After much worrying, I just got approval from the SVA and British Department of Transport to import my Type-R STI V5 into the UK.
Got the SVA test booked tomorrow in Larnaca.
Had a rear fog-light and fuel neck restrictor installed and speedo converstion carried out today.

If you notice, our friend here is in Cyprus!
You can still import them in the UK AFAIK but nobody has a model report on them so ESVA is not possible.
Shame too, such a nice car if I say so myself

Well just back from the test. Started at 8.30am and finished at 6.30pm! God they are ****!!!! They test EVERYTHING.
I didn't need a model report in the end as my car is a personal import. BY the way you can import cars from Japan via Cyprus for the SVA test. Check out the back pages off Japanese Performance mag. for adverts of the SVA Centre in Larnaca, Cyprus.
My car passed everything apart from the emissions. Going back tomorrow to re-sit it. Don't know whats wrong with it. They said exhaust and cat were ok. Turns out I have the standard STi backbox, but a Cusco centre section.
The car is not running level when idle. ie. it rev counter moves slightly. Also they found that some cables had been meddled with and I have an after market ECU and Goodridge braided brake hoses.
I bought the electronic Speedo converstion from Import Solutions and it has been fitted correctly. Speedo and Odometer in miles now. Problem is, when I get to 40mph in 1st gear, it hits like a limiter, then 2nd gear at 45mph, 3 rd gear at 50mph, 4th gear at 60mph, and 5th gear at 80mph!!!!! **** knows whats wrong now!!!!!
They also found that in 1st gear there is whine from the gearbox when lifting off the throttle. Anyone know what this could be?

so just to confirm. if I was say to purchase a STI version 6 type R in Japan. I could import it into Cyprus, have it tested/registered there. Then import it into the UK with no problems????

my car failed emmisions on it's MOT last week ,was hitting the 0.83 co2 needed to get the reading down to 0.2 so the test examiner suggested i take the car for a little blast so as to warm up the CAT of which i obliged came back did a retest and past with 0.2 so try this method as it worked for me.

Not all Type-R's are STi's.
There's a WRX Type-R parked right outside my room now.
The non STi Type-R's don't have the DCCD, I/C waterspray, 2 pot rear breaks or(obviously!) the red top STi engine, STi pink suspension or the Group N 'box.
They do have ABS which the STi doesn't have.

so would you say in fair honesty that the sti type R with a phase 1 engine is as strong as a wrx type R ,i was lead to believe that the sti has uprated forge pistons and conrods a stonger crank uprated fuel pump etc...

It doesnt have a stronger crankshaft though; Chris Rees was wrong about that.
