Golf,

Go to a specialist like Elite in Rainham and get the settings done to the Prodrive recommended values, they will also take out the slight angle of the steering wheel.

Same here, my 99 when I picked it up new, wheel off centre.
Two Subaru main dealers couldn't get it right.
After about a year I gave up and went to TSL who put better geometry on it and centred wheel. Does cost a bit but worth it.
Settings ok to this day, although only 35k miles, but tyrewear dead even across tread, although it's rarely on motorway.
Really, yes, of course your dealer should sort it.

I had a problem with a Golf GTI a few years ago that insisted on pulling to the left despite having the tracking done several times. Eventually I swapped the left hand and the right hand tyres around.....and it pulled to the right! It seems that the tracking had been out for so long before I bought it that the tyres had worn in such a way that they wouldn't drive straight even with the tracking spot on.
Unfortunately with directional tyres, swapping left to right isn't that easy any more.

Have you checked your tyre pressures? Don't laugh, cos some numpty who I work with complained about his car (Escort si) pulling to the left. He had it at the dealer twice, had the geometry checked twice by two dealers and was told it might need new parts (out of warranty) so it would cost. In frustration he booked it into ATS for them to have a look at it. The first thing the guy did was check the tyre pressures. Less than half the pressure was in that should have been. He put them to the correct pressures and.............. hey presto car fixed. He still gets the pi55 taken out of him for that.

Several companies can do it 'properly' including:

Micheldever Tyres - www.micheldever.co.uk
Power Engineering
TSL
PowerStation

etc, etc.

I've used Micheldever a few times and highly recommend them, although you normally need to get there for 8am and book ahead rather than turn up.

I got my car new with an angle to the steering wheel, the dealer said they did not have the equipment to adjust the tracking - probably not the skilled staff and just did not want to do it. So I took it to Elite and, after viewing this site, had Prodrive recommended settings installed. The car is so much better after each adjustment - it seems to me that the badly folded roads of Southend pulls the steering out of true!

Where is the nearest place to Sheffield to get this done and what can I expect to pay?
