Default Fitting an SX Fuel Presure Regulator..

What is required in addition to the actual Reg unit & exactly what do I need to purchase in addition to fit to a MY99 STi running stock fuel rail, reg & 440's... (Moving to 550's next month possibly 740..)

So..
1. The specific parts I need in addition to the Reg to bolt on to my MY99.
2. Defi specific gauge questions as below..

In addition I would like to add a Defi Fuel Preasure Gauge..

I Would rather keep tabs on this inside the car with the Defi unit as opposed to a gauge bolted onto the side of the Reg... would this be possible with the stock Fuel Preasure Gauge from Defi with supplied sender unit?

The defi comes with..

1/8PT
(1/8NPT-PT Conversion socket is included)

Is this a direct fit sender or..?

Example:

And the complete contents are.. (top - Fuel Press)

Thanks on this one guys.

Fitted one of these to my95 Sti Ra about 6 weeks ago.
Pretty straight forward really, the hardest part was finding a place to mount it. I eventually tucked it under the fuel filter, between the air con receiver.

Quite hard too see it in these pictures but when you see it in the car it looks really neat.
I got mine from Carl Davey through one of the group buys he did on here.
The reg's that he sourced didn't come with fittings but he put together all the fittings required for a good price. If you contact him i'm sure he'll be happy to supply you with a set, last time spoke with him he was also working on some smart ally fittings so they might be available now.

Are you going to do the parallel fuel rail mod while you're at it? Does mean taking the manifold off but it seems to be a recomended mod and can only improve things further.

To remove the stock reg you have a few options, buy the fse adapter about £25+/- prob easiest, or make your own like i did

The defi fuel press gauge. If you see in one of the pics there is a blank in one end of the reg? If you ask Carl he will also tap this blank to suit a pressure gauge. The 1/8 pt on the defi sender unit is the same thread as the mechanical gauge i think so it shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this makes sense!!!

Dont know if i've got any pics of when i did mine, ill have a look.
It's been done plenty times so i'm sure you'll find something if you do a search.

The idea behind it is to maintain an even supply to all the injectors, it's been shown that the standard set up can result in varying pressures at the injectors due to the layout of the pipe work.

I see, so the rail is not fed from the middle to compensate? Will do a search

The standard fuel rail feeds 4-2-1-3 in that order, the idea behind the fuel rail mod is to create two small fuel rails equally fed as apposed to one big on with a big gap in the middle.
Excuse the shockingly bad diagram but you get the idea.

You need to cut the metal pipes on you existing fuel rail and fit rubber fuel hose onto them using proper fuel hose clamps which close up better than worm drive clamps on small diameters, if in doubt put two on each connection.
I dont think it matters what side is the feed and which is the return but this is the way i've done mine.

The list is endless.. you do one mod.. then find another to do to support that.. then... an... another... lol

It's a bit fiddly taking the manifold off, it helps to have an extra pair of hands but it's easily do-able in a day as long as you have all the gaskets etc.
It is worth while doing so i'd try and do it as soon as you can.

MODS.... tell me about it i told myself i'll do this and that and then ill leave it like that for a while and until i've got some more money but it never works that way!!!

More done for safety, rather that a power boost. I guess getting a little more air/fuel in will give me a little more go.

Jase, you can mount the Defi sender as Kenny described in the blank on the side of the reg. I think it's a worthwhile mod and actually had a remote Defi gauge keeping an eye on the FSE on my old car. It came in handy as the local gauge i had fitted to the FSE began to drift, were it not for the Defi i'd have leaned off the fuelling...

I have the fittings here if you need them. Offshore on Thursday for a fortnight though. FSE can do you the rail adaptor.

Or make one from a spare fuel rail. Try your local scrappy for a Legacy and use the front left hand fuel rail from it.

Cheers Carl, well defo take you up on the adapter parts.. in fact if you can get your hands on an SX with all the required *gubbins I'll take it off your hands.. Not fussed re the under bonnet gauge as I will pickup a Defi at some point and plumb that in.
