I'm contemplating putting 18" on my Type-R STi. Will it sit too high if I do this and will I need to lower it?

nope went straight on my my00 ra no problem, I did however have the full geometry done

 

So it won't sit as high as a tractor then?

 

nah but it will feel like one...mine had 18's on it when i brought it and changing back to 17's transformed it. Save your money and enjoy your drive more.

Everybody else on here seems to swear by 18" for the improved grip etc.

 

You'll be fine with 18's and dropping it 20 mm or so on Eibachs won't do you any harm either

Choose either a 7'' or 7 1/2'' wide rim with 215 tyres,trust me

 

If I don't do that though, will it sit too high and look daft?

Otherwise, who much will that cost to do?

 

Go for 18s just put lower profile tyre on. dont forget putting bigger wheels on will change top end speeds.

 

personally,despite a very similar diameter between 17'' and 18''wheels.

I think it will look noticeably high,if you want to tighten up your handling as well fit Eibachs,if you want lower go H+R

 

go drive a scoob on 18's before buying, thats the only way to find out.

 

The only problem I have experienced with 18'' wheels is if they are 8'' wide with 215 tyres

I put 18s on my RB5, didnt look any higher, have also put eibachs on since though. Just make sure you fit 215/35/18 on there or you may get some rubbing at the rear.

 

I take it it slows the car down abit? By how much?
I'm getting some light weight Prodrive wheels.

Should I go for 17" or 18"?

No visualy not much dont worry about it, but bigger wheels means in my theiory the car should go faster topend,as it all goes together with gearing,bigger wheels more speed, smaller wheels less speed.

ya fair coment but remember,if he was running 16inch rims with low profile tyres,compared with 18inch rims with low profile tyres,there will be a differance in gearing.

Im currently on Apexi N1 Pro Damper kit and I havent adjusted anything since swapping and all seems fine. I havent noticed any comfort issues - its still just as hard and bumpy LOL. The only thing I have noticed, is it feels like it can break away a little "easier" but it's more predictable... either that or Im still scrubbing the tyres in!
