i have a bugeye sti with the ppp upgrade is it worth me getting it de-cated or will i lose bottom end power doing this.

full decat, all the way..i have 98 v4 type r with equal length headers, up pipe, downpipe, 3" all the way thru, runs lovely, haqvent had my apexi ecu fitted yet, gettin done next wknd so shud be good results hopefully

 

Cats = less power.
No cats = more power.

The probably more accurate figures, considering it was 208bhp as standard, are here from Powerstation.

If nothing else, they show the discrepancies between rolling roads.
I guess it's a no-brainer. A mappable ecu would help get the best from it. Anyway, it's been too long since I talked Scooby tecchie stuff and I'm sure things are different now so goodbye.

I wouldn't bother. The decat will screw with your map and may damage your engine (as told to me by a very well known mapper). You'll also lose whatever warranty is left.

If you do get it done, a remap will cost about £650 and that will make a difference with the decat.

Youre asking the question most people ask for the first mod-so i presume youve decided that you will probably end up decatting.Once youve done it you'll love it.Theres no noticable gain at the bottom end,but it makes a world of difference from 5K and above-its noticable how much more eager to rev higher.

STi's have a more aggressive map so are more likely to det/lean out with a decat-its advisable to get at least a knocklink to monitor it.

IMO weather you decide to stick with that as the only mod or not,its definately worthwhile doing.

The matched system I have (open neck, 3" free flowing design) gave better spool up/response, as well as top end power increases. Albeit a JDM, my Spec C gave increases of up to 40bhp and 50lbft in parts of the rev range, with a specific 3" System alone...... without exhaust specific remapping.

The Sti runs a bit more aggressive than the WRX and boost spikes / running lean might be a real problem ....

If you have decided to move on from the PPP then it gets complicated

I'd have a word with your preferred mapper depending where you are in the country, Bob Rawle at BR Developments did mine You know it makes sense......LOL

Be aware that most of the above comments apply to improvements made by replacing the STANDARD downpipe and catalyst, not the PPP version which flows better than an open pipe.

thanks for the comments, the thing i was trying to find out was would it be worth replacing the ppp one for a de-cat, i'm no stranger to modifying cars had 2 evo's before this but ive never had a set package on a car always been a base car and worked up. has any gone down this route with a ppp sti or is the ppp system just as good as de-catting.

It depends on what you want in terms of BHP / Torque...the PPP for the bugeyet STi still has a lot of safety still built in. It would do as it has a 3 year warrantly..LOL

Your present set up has a pretty good induction system (one thing subaru got right) and Intercooler (another thing.....lol), plus injectors, fuelling etc which should see a good re-map (over and above your PPP) get 300 plus BHP and near on 280 plus torque

err...... rather like the WR1 Blobeye (ish)

if you want more than that then you have to start swapping hardware..........

mines a sti ppp so i get 305bhp and 299lb of torque already, ive had loud exzorsts b4 and its not the noise i'm looking for just fancied a bit more low end power will have to have a think about this

Maybe Andy Forrest can help ? his TD04 hybrid seems to give a fair amount of low end grunt AFAIK
