Is there a general increase in Scooby thefts at the moment, as I'm sure 2 or 3 were posted on here last week???

Do the newage models have better alarms/immobilisors than the classics or are the systems identical?

Having read a few threads, I take it the Disclock is the most common security add-on to provide that little extra inconvenience to the thieves??

I'm getting more concerned aboutcar thefts. I assumed on purchase that my 04 WRX would have an up to date anti-theft system, that thieves would require a key to drive it away.

Dislock?, **** that i brought the 'Snap-on' Adaptor for my Momo S/Wheel, then filled the screws with a metal bonding putty that turns to rock, so the ****s can't take the boss of and put a standard wheel on it.

 

I still reckon blackjaxx is the best security device,you can just hand the keys over knowing they aint gonna get to far....

If you haven't got one a Thatcham 1 immobiliser is the single best device I think. It won't stop the *******s getting in but the only way they're going to take your car is to tow it away.

It stopped a bunch of fairly determined thieves from nicking an RS Turbo I owned years ago.

They used the stoplock I had fitted to break the steering lock then burst the ignition lock & stoplock, then proceeded to push the car around a busy town centre Safeway car park at two o'clock in the afternoon with the alarm going off.

When they couldn't get it started they ripped out the head unit, cd player, amp & speakers.

Fecking low life neds

These car thefts are usually carried out by getting the keys......................a thatcham 1 immobiliser will be useless.

 

Yep a good piece of kit , anything to make their life harder , good value form Costco too

 

Black jax is a device which immobilises the car and activates the alarm in the event of the car being stolen using the keys (as in a theft from home scenario) or if the door is opened whilst the engine is running (as in a hijack scenario). However, it does not affect the cars operation immediately, it lets the theives drive away for about half a mile, thus getting them away from the owner, then it cuts in. Theives have no choice but to abandon the car, leaving you to collect it....after you've called the police of course! :-)

Cost about £200 fitted as a stand alone device, or comes as part of one of Clifford's high end alarm systems. Make sure you get it done by an approved Clifford dealer.

On a UK spec car can you not just alter the alarm set-up so that you have to type in a code in order to start the engine? I use it when I go on holiday, but it is a bit embarrassing to have the alarm go off before you can type in the code - no code then alarm goes off, and immobiliser doesn't let it start, even with the keys.

There are a few other functions too, such as the "Personal Panic" where if you press the button on the key for 5 seconds the car alarm goes off and the indicators flash.

 

Read in the London Standard or Daily Mail in the past couple of weeks:
The amount of cars stolen in the UK has dropped by 20%. Would any insurance companies care to pass on the saving to their customers?

 

Ah but have thefts of scooby's dropped? I'm sure I read recently that imprezas are the third most desireable cars for theft

 

Yep, you can also set the alarm to lock all the doors upon turning on the ignition- an anti-hijack feature.

Hi all . . I never owned a classic Impreza, but recently took delivery of my Impreza 300 . . .What can I tell you . . It is probably the hardest car to steal . .Yes . .Cat 1 Alarm , Double deadlocks, Imobiliser, Super alarm (i.e can't start without pincode) . .But also came with an RAC Trackstar as standard which boastes recovery in 20 minutes . . .By the way this also comes with tilt motion sensors so if the s**ts try to tow it/lift it, the authorities will be alerted immediately . . .MAy create a bit of a problem when changing tires . .But also , the dealer very kindly threw in bandit glass , guaranteed to withstand a 20 minute attack . . . SO in a nut shell, yes - its pretty hard to steal!

 

I have BlackJax on my BMW, but had it switch off as it can be a real pain in the ***. You'll be amazed at how often you find yourself opening the door with the engine running and the novelty of inputting the override code every time that happens soon wears off... I'm sure anyone who's ever been carjacked before would argue that's a small price to pay if it means you keep your car...

My Classic was nearly stolen last week. The police think it way joy riders trying to get something that can bait/outrun the cops. They said they no longer chase Scoobys and Evos around Bristol as they can never catch them...

 

Yeah, most likely. As you say, a bit of annoyance is a small price to pay if it means the s*its don't get your car. Trackers are all very well, but I wonder how many people actually want their cars back after it has been thrashed within an inch of its life for a joyride and/or in an atempt to evade the police. At least Blackjax means its stopped in its tracks before the ******* have a chance to cane it.

I found the personal panic alarm by accident the other day, most embarrassing whilst sitting in a busy garage forecourt. But at least I know it works.

I was asking a dealer about Blackjax and his reply was, while they have it on their demo car, they'd actually stopped getting it as they had found that it really drained the battery on cars that weren't being used very often?

 

Ive got Blackjax on my classic and its a great idea. Its no prblem putting the code in as you get a warning anyway before it kicks in. The alarm chirps and the lights flash. Funny when your driving along you get some strange looks

You can get the Blackjax feature on some quite low end Clifford systems now and also the tilt sensors etc for not alot more...

The more you have fitted the less chance the Thieving Ba*****s having of nicking your motor.......

what a dull list unsurprisingly its older, easier to steal and common cars that are most nicked.

 

The one i'm picking up as a 2km pager alarm which I think is great........but now i'm under the impression that if they want to nick it, they'll find a way.

All we can do is to slow them down a bit.....
