Doing the usual insurance phone about and got this.
RAC (0845 7121345) gave the girl my details and she came back with a quote of £901.33 with an excess of £125, she asked what my best quote was, I told £830 with a higher excess, she then chacked again and came back with £703.66 with a £275 excess (£760 if paying by DD). Was also told that they don't care about non performance boosting mods (wheels etc.)
So basically increased excess of £150, saved £200 on my insurance, just got to hope I don't have more than 1 claim a year !!
I would recommend that you give the RAC a call if your insurance is due.

Sasim,
Whilst I'm not knocking the RAC, the telesales operator in person, or the price of the policy...it does however annoy me when I hear/see that a so called broker (i.e. the RAC!)..offers you a price....then asks if you have anything cheaper...and then low and behold...comes up with an even cheaper deal for you!!! (BTW, I'm all for cheaper policies ).
As a broker they should be offering INDEPENDENT ADVICE...and I would suggest the best premium for their customer from the outset...and not as it would appear in this case...offering you the preferred policy/premium....then amazingly managing to reduce it by...well in my view...one h@ll of a large premium.
All their quotes are screen driven...which means that they can see all the policies and premium and excesses on the screen at the time they quote the premiums to you...
Guess I must have got out of bed the wrong side today!
Well done for finding a company that, hopefully, offer us good deals!!...its just the way they have done it on this occasion that rattles me. They could have offered you that cheaper price 1st!!
Rant over...I'll get my coat.
All the best
Rum

Totally agree with you Rum, I should have been offered the cheapest possible price in the first place, then we discuss the fine details.
Anyway turns out that they fu&*ed up, that price was for only 6000 miles per year, still looks like they will be the cheapest with the correct details at about £750.

A few points here:
I believe the RAC insurance service is not a broker it is actually AXA-Direct, and when giving you the quote they are offering you the premium using standard AXA terms and conditions, eg. Excess of £125. If you ask them how to reduce that quote they should offer to increase the excess.
I have just gone with AXA Direct and my premium has gone down £80 from last year
I am happy with this because:
- I have 1 more years NCB (5yrs to 6yrs)
- The value of my Scoob has dropped over the past 12 months
- I was expecting to pay more this year as, in general, premiums seem to have gone up.
I believe AXA direct will set your Excess at any value you want between £125 and £375. I have £250 as I had last year when I was insured through a broker (Catteralls) with AXA. At renewal time Catteralls as much as recommended me to try AXA Direct as they couldn't compete this year.
I haven't had the documentation through yet but after questioning the telesales person the policy seems to be identical to my current one.

HEY!!!
They don't charge you for alloys as they are not covered. I have large expensive alloys and they are all covered on my policy with Greenlight Insurance. Try them on 01277 263030

As per an earlier post - worth looking at Norwich Union Direct. Insured me and wife for 475.00 with 150 excess.
MY97 3yr NCB, garaged. Cat2 Immob, 10k miles a year. Only one that came close was RAC.
Worth a go.
