Default Another top speed brag

Well impressed with my WRX 03. Whilst travelling on a private motorway this morning I got somewhat carried away with the throttle and managed an indicated 157 mph!!! This was with a 1000rpm to go before the big 160. Would it have gone off the clock if I had pushed I'll never know.

Top car man!

Whats my point? Didn't think it would take much pointing out, but if I must.

Anybody doing 157mph on public roads needs their head examining. Ok 100, maybe 110 but is 157mph stictly necessary? You must be off your heads, and when you smash and burn hopefuly your the only one that cops it.

I take it you don't own a car that is capable of doing more that the 70mph legal limit then.
If you own a scooby why have you bought a 200+ bhp car when speeding is o.t.t.
Whats the diff doing 110 to 150 ? Conditions permitting of course.
In for a penny in for a pound.
Get a nissan micra if speeding is a no no.

Well said that man!

Personally never had my 02 WRX past a ton, so found this thread quite interesting. Never realised it would go that fast!

I'd quite gladly hand anyone the keys to my Landy and ask them to drive it as fast as they dare

.....Most people will back off before the ton, as its just far too scary

Then that really will be something worth prooving

Iain
As it happens Iain i've only had a ton out of mine due to road conditions + that was adequate at the time. I just get the hump when people preach the speed thing as if they had never ventured 1mph over the limit in their lives.
Why by a performance car to drive below 3000rpm all the time.
Perhaps they get a kick from the running costs

I've over 500bhp parked up on my drive (derv + scoob) so yes, if I felt the need I could get to 160.

Like I said I don't have any problem with folk doing give or take a ton in the right conditions. But my point is that 157mph is excessive, you, any passengers and any other cars unlucky enough to be involved would have zero chance of walking or being stretchered away with a pulse.

Look at the laws of physics and you will see that 157mph isn't simply 57% more dangerous than 100mph, one would think it was more like 200%

Just my 2p's worth!

Sorry bud, I have really rubbed you up the wrong way. We clearly ain't going to agree on this one.

But surely you can appreciate my point. I do have respect for other road users and like to plant my power into the tarmac at every given oppertunity, just not 157mph worth. You don't have to go twice as fast to have twice the fun, learn to drive!

like i said earlier he was only looking to see what the car would do.
Its not to say he drives like that every day.
I've done it myself on an open road,no traffic, no passengers, just seeing what the manufacturers claim is somewhere near being right.
If i crash and burn i take me, my car and possibly a tree

I am no saint but 9 times out of ten i drive with my family and never creep over 80 on a dual.
I will repeat my point.
On an open road, good driving conditions, no traffic, wheres the prob in trying out top speed ? (also no unwilling passengers or minors)

Don't you think that doing this sort of speed with one hand on the wheel, while trying to take a photo of the speedo and watch the road at the same time, is just a tad dangerous....? You've got more bottle than me mate!!

What a stupid thread

Doing 157 is in a whole different league to doing 100.
