Cool Wind noise at 140+

Recently had the chance to stretch the legs of my MY05 STi.

There was quite a loud howl from somewhere around the top of the drivers door as i got to 140.

Anyone know if it's possible to stop it, or if it dissapears at a higher speed ?

I get it in my classic. Think it because of the pillar-less doors. A friend has wind deflectors on his and this prevents it. Not sure if you can get them for the newage cars.

02 Sti7------ Me too, it's horendous. Mine kicks in about 120+ and is only comparable to having aled Jones in the passenger seat having his ********* slowly crushed by a Grizzly Bear..

Yes you can get the wind deflectors for the new age cars.

The unfortunate thing is they look pants.

Turn the stereo uo.

I would imagine you will see that kind of speed everytime you hit a looooong straight on a track. Other than that I sure as hell wouldn't condone it myself.

The seal around the top of the door does improve if you open the window a touch and re-close it after you have closed the door. I haven't done extensive testing to see if that solves the problem at 140+, but it does make a difference if you're getting "fluttery" wind noise from there at legal speeds

Yep, 'opening' the window slightly may fix the problem. I had it on my last car at 80mph (Audi A4) and 'dabbing' the windows button slightly was enough to stop it. I didn't have to open the window, just move the pane down the rubber seal slightly. The noise was just due to the pressure in the cabin and opening the sunroof got rid of it so I tested my theory by moving the pane slightly and it worked.
