Smile Tesco 99RON photographic proof

Took this photo today at Tesco, Brookfield, Cheshunt, Herts. If this doesn't clear up the confusion I don't know what will.

What's the price?

Are they undercutting other suppliers in your area?

87.4p I beleve, thats cheeper than the Optimax and no one has 99RON but Tesco, so no need to undercut anyone really.

tesco are not the only ones supplying 99 ron.

q8 also used to supply 99ron but have changed hands and im not sure if they still have refinery equipment at harwich any more, which may be where tescos is now able to pick this up from.

My Type R is Tek3'd for Optimax, and will just about light the 1st orange LED on the Knocklink at the redline. Unfortunately I have a full tank at the moment, but next fillup I'll try Tesco's and buy a tank of their 99 (if Swindon is stocking it).

Could be a few days though as I don't use the car for work.

If:

1) This stuff is good and doesn't light up Knocklinks like a Blackpool Promenade in October
2) Tesco can get it out all over the country
3) They don't put the price through the roof

they are going to be on a huge winner :-) Come on Tescos, you know you can do this!

What on earth makes you think that Tesco's is funding any of this!!!! All they've done is gone to a refinery thats mostly supply their petrol , and said , if you don't supply this we will take all our petrol elsewhere . Oh , and BTW if you want to supply us , we want £300k as well .

Roll on Tesco's and the next £2 billion profit !!!!!

Personally speaking , I always go for the indepandant petrol seller . I wouldn't trust Tesco's with a pint of milk let alone a pint of petrol in my scooby .

Sainsbury in York sell 97 RON for 2p a litre more than 95RON so I'm sure Tesco will want to get into the high octane market. AFAIK this is the first time Tesco have sold anything other than 95 RON petrol (Other than LRP for the pedantic) Heres to cheaper SUL then...

Who needs knocklinks and the other rubbish??

I don't know ..... can't anyone drive anymore without the dash looking like an aircraft cockpit??

Just throw it in the tank and drive it, does it feel different? does it pink? is it smoother?

Dear god ...... throw all that electronic cak in the bin and LIVE LIFE!!

i will be happy if they are, but i doubt that will happen

why oh why would they possibly want to sell 99ron??
apart from a few imports, most cars wont see any benifits will they?

StickyMicky,

I can understand your scepticism and I'm a bit doubtful too, but they wouldn't be allowed to have 99 RON on the pumps if it wasn't. I guess the stuff will have to come from one of the few refineries in the UK, so maybe someone "in the know" will clarify it.

A higher quality fuel should be more efficient, so any car should see some benefit in consumption - yes/no?

HELLO!!! Did you not see my photo at the top of this thread!!! I went out of my way to go back home again and get the camera to take the photo of 99ron at tesco to show you all. If you still dont belive me then what more can I do.

I don't think Micky's doubting your evidence or integrity, but more the actual rating from Tesco themselves. It may say 99 RON on the pump, but who's to say it's actually better than any other SUL?

My brother in law works at Tesco HQ, Cheshunt. Will ask him what the story is.

Thumbs up Looking Forward To It!

Rang Tesco's today to get to the bottom of this. They say the higher octane fuel will be rolled out across their network to replace LRP as soon as their stocks of LRP run out.

They have to go through a tank cleaning process first before they can use them for the newer fuel. It's a question of keeping a beady eye out at your larger Tesco outlets and you should soon find this out on the forecourts.

In terms of price, that will be interesting to see how that levels out. As someone else has said Sainsbury's sell 98 octane unleaded for a competitive price. I have used their fuel on quite a few occasions and, no, my car works just the same as before, absolutely no horror stories to report. I guess Tesco's will want to remain in this price bracket to remain competitive.

It will be nice to buy, say, £100 worth of food & goods and then get a petrol voucher that gets you a further 5p per litre off the advertised price. I'll definitely have some of that. Kushty!

Why not? I'm sure there are many companies out there who like to milk us for money (and of course there are those who do it to earn a living).

Knocklink probably saved my engine the other day. Fuel pressure dropped from 3.2 bar to just over 1 bar in a split second. Knocklink lit up, I took my foot of the pedal and drove home safely

Exclamation

The photo shows "99 Octane" and not "99 RON"!

Could there be a subtle (legal, technical, description of goods act or whatever) difference between the two??

I'll post my clubcard number, please feel free to quote it at your tesco filling stations, if we all use the stuff I may have enough for a plastic football in 6 months.
