I heard some upsetting news yesterday from one of my motorsport friends.
Apparently he had a grade 4 tumour (presumably this is bad?) and was in a very bad way - vegatitive at one point.
Apparently he will be lucky to even drive again, let alone race
That's all I know, so don't ask me for more detail, and please, no disrespectful comments, not a nice topic.

mate had a grade 4 and sadly lost the fight (inevitably i understand)
but saying that, you've only got to look at lance armstrong to see that all hope is never lost.
best wishes go to richard.

In answer to your question: Yes, grade 4 is very bad, it's the worst category of tumor if my understanding is correct.
Condolences to Richard and his friends and family.

MMMm this is not good news if its true... doing a google on tumor catagories is even worse news...for such a nice guy to be struck down like this is very sad indeed... My thoughts go out to him and the family, we know Richard is as good a fighter as anyone... and I would think everyone is doing there best for him...
All we can do is keep hopeing he at least gets well enough to appriciate all the good things in life, driving cars and all that stuff don't really stand up in such a situation...
A situation that could happen to any one of us and one that should spure people on to donate a few quid each month the Cancer research...
I did this several months ago and in the scheme of things cost next to nothing...
Good luck to Richard!

I was trying to organise the 3rd scoobynet ball for this year, but due to lack of demand and a lack of my organising abilities it never happened. I'd emailed richard, well, zoe his partner, to ask if he could come as guest of honour, and he had initially agreed to attend. I was over the moon to hear that, and was dissapointed to have to inform zoe that the event had been cancelled.
My thoughts go out to Richard and Zoe, and all his family at this time. If it is a grade 4, then my theatre nurse wife tells me that a grade 4 tumour is one that has no more normal cells in it. Depending on where it is, it may/maynot be operable.

I will try and find out more, I didn't want to pry for obvious reasons, but from what was said it was that he 'had' not 'has' and he just said that he wouldn't be likely to be able to drive again, which gives hope that he is at least going to survive.

Hmm 5 posts says it all!
As do i hope Richard gets over this, i met him once and tbh he's best sportsman i have ever talked to, had the time, even tho he was very busy to talk to us.
Absolutely.
Its so great though that we are all able to look back on the great things he achieved for the UK, and for the scooby
Some of you will also remember when Richard gave up his time to chat with us on scoobynet and answer a load of questions.
I'll dig out the thread.
All the best Richard, Zoe and family.

This thread is for Richard's fans to express their sadness at his bad fortune and pass on our very best wishes to him and his family. There can be no reasonable objection to that. Incidentally that's from a Psychologist.
Now, let's keep this thread on track please.
