Default Is your scoob your family car?

If not then what is?

With 3 young kids my scoob (STi5) hardly gets used these day cos I bought an mpv last year, I have done about 1700 miles after spending £3000 on it early last year! ..... but I can't quite find the heart to let it go UNLESS I get a slightly bigger, safer new scoob for me and the family

If we all go out it is in the mpv .... otherwise I get blasted for leaving the missus with the kids on a Sunday morning!

Sounds like you have got it about right, keep the scoob for fun on your own -you can't have much fun with wife and kids on board anyway. I posess an 03 WRX - yes bigger, quieter, more comfortable but still scares wifey if i accelerate remotely fast so we end up using her Honda Civic for most family trips.

Of our two cars, my Scoob is the practical sensible one, despite the fact that mine wins on both acceleration and top speed (and probably cornering too)
My GF Drives a Nissan 200sx S13, and I drive a twin turbo Legacy B4, so mine gets to haul the large loads and seats 5 people in comfort, at least until I turn it and mash the 3 rear seat passengers into one another.
OTOH, if we have to transport the cat, the 200sx is used since I'm allergic to it and don't want cat hairs in my lovely Scooby.

We use our MY99 as our family car no probs. It's not a wagon, and we've also got a Ford Mondeo as a 2nd car. But TBH, both cars get equal family use.

The kids love the accelleration and we (wifey & I) drive it sensibly (especially with the 2 kids)

Even the dog likes it

Who says these aren't family cars???

Dan

I bought a wagon specifically as a family car. We sold my wife's MX-5 and my Integrale when my Son was born and replaced both with a '96 WRX wagon, which is our only car.

Does the job, just wish the insurance was cheaper.

We have a Volvo V70 which racks up nearly 1000 miles a week, and does all family trips, and the scoob is used when the Volvo isn't there.

Hi
I did use my scooby for everything, but it wasnt really big enough for going away in. MY00 Saloon, sub takes up all the boot space. No space for luggage and kids.(plus uprated suspension, loud exhaust etc...)
So i compromised with the wifey and bought her a Forester S-Turbo. Which I use nearly all the time. My car is now just for when I feel like using it.
Love the Forester, still fun.

My MY00 is the practical family runabout. 4 doors & a big boot easily takes prams / pushchairs / golf clubs etc...

We made a stop-off at Ikea on the way home from holiday last year - got a wardrobe, drawers & cot (all flat packed) and 2 suitcases in the back and it's "only" a saloon - nor did the suspension bottom out on the way home...

good job it's so practical - the other half a Citroen AX which is next to useless for lugging stuff about.

My kids love my MY93 WRX too.
My boy's 5 too and laughs like mad when I accelerate hard!
Occasionally we have to take the Vectra estate if carrying alot of kit

Our scoob is our family car and I challenge anyone who says it isn't (with exception to the fuel costs). Our son has already asked if he can go on the insurance next year............yeah right! LOL

My scoob is used daily, ran or shine. The kids love it, especialy when I pick them up from school on Wednesdays in it.
My only complaint is that the back seat is a bit to small for our babies seat, but apart from that its an excellent family car and the boot is huge for the weekly shop.

I paid my deposit on the STi5 having just found out my wife was expecting, we found out a while later that she was expecting twins (now 2 1/2) and I was glad that I had a practical 4-door saloon That was the family car for 2 years, with a few long trips thrown in for good measure - I reckon the loud exhaust helped send em to sleep as a bonus. Then number 3 came along and well ..... no longer practical as I can't fit the 3 kids in the back!

Q: Can 3 stage 2 child sets fit in the back of a current model scoob? They just about managed to fit in the FQ340 I test drove! That's all the excuse I need ........

Get yourself a twin turbo Legacy mate. It's an Impreza in disguise and has better low end pull, should have no problem fitting 3 sprogs in it and if you get the wagon version you can probably fit 3 prams in the back too.

Hi, yes, my Wagon is the family runaround.

Had a people carrier (Delica 4x4) and was fed up with driving it on my own, sons would not be seen in it - (uncool).

Part-exed it for the Scoob last August, now I hardly ever drive alone !!

Still get the grins when I drive the Scoob.

micky. sorry to hear your bad news, (read your thread) hope your not parted from your licence for long, if at all.

Ditto! We have a UK MY00 + PPP as our only car. It is absolutely brilliant as a practical family car and we have never had any problems with fitting the baby's gear in the boot, etc. Petrol isn't a problem either because I work in London and don't use the car for work. My 9 month old son still looks a little confused when I floor it, but I'm sure he will approve when he's a little older...!

Mark.

The Forester is our family car.

We have a baby on the way and I don't think a pushchair would have fitted in either of our car (Ford Ka and Honda CRX), although I've kept the Ford Ka as a work hack.

The Forester was chosen because it has:

1) Three 3-point belts in the back
2) A bigger boot than an Impreza wagon
3) Good visability (especially for my wife)
4) Excellent ENCAP test results in the States (5 stars)
5) Better image IMHO than an Impreza (less likely to get broken into for keys, car jacked, etc)
6) The burbly exhaust note that I missed!!

As I said to the wife before I bought it....."nothing too outlandish, I will buy a blue 4 door family saloon, with plenty of boot space for the pram and plenty room for two child seats....."
