As the garage didn't refit the bracket for the main battery to engine block earth cable after my clutch change ( Doh! ) is there any problem fixing the earth wire to the Knock Link sensor position / bolt?

Mine used to too, until the garage forgot to refit it.....!

 

Can't see why they would detach the bracket from the earth strap in the first place ! - Just take the lot off when removing the bell housing bolt.

IMO, you'd be better off making a new bracket, than attaching the wire under the knock sensor bolt.

 

They probably undid the bolt to remove the gearbox, and removed anything else attached to it at the time / for access!!

So no 90 degree bracket off the top bellhousing bolt, so the earth lead was left flapping about. Only noticed when I took off the intercooler!

I could use a larger circular earth connector to the bellhousing bolt, or use a new piece of earth cable to a similar bracket on the other side of the engine block... unless I can get a "new" one for the original place!
Bet I can't make one .. not my thing! ( I can bolt 'em together tho! )

 

I would put it back in std location, i know of cars that havent turned the starter motor with the earth lead elsewhere... maybe isolated cases but if you are gonna undo the KL bolt you might as well get a 14mm out and undo the starter bolt!

Rob - it has run fine for last 4 months with this lead hanging off!!! I did do the fabled "Ring Earth" mod a couple of years ago though which may have helped provide some earthing through the ECU/manifolds etc., I was just a bit concerned that this was the other main earth direct from the battery ( after the main one to the body! ) and thought I should re fit it!

Any one got a spare bracket for the bellhousing bolt? Otherwise I shall use a larger hole earth connector on the lead.!

Ah sorry mate i didnt know you had done the earthing mod, in that case i would just run it to the KLS bolt.

Skyline Hmmmm... Not sure which direction yet, am really enjoying it at the mo... have modded a couple of bits and cant see me going the big BHP route atm but who knows.
A friend of mine has been running 750hp for a while now, he has just paid out for the bits to run 1200bhp... as i know what it has cost him i really cant see me going that way .

The engine earth lead is now on the Knock link sensor mounting bolt, and seems not to be a problem!

Still would like the bit that;s missing to do it properly, if anyoe is going to the scrap yard / Grade A etc!


Rob - 1200 bhp Skyline is erm ... astounding! Will it last? Should be TOTB material if it does! As you say, speed costs!!!
