Default Forester STI

Hi- wonder if you can help me

I need to have an estate to cart twins around and their baggage.

Are the STI Forresters any good as a baby carrier and a car for fun too?

What is the mpg?

Any comments appreciated- where is the best place to buy, I am in the West Midlands.

Cheers

This is the thread you need

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...t=sti+forester

Foresters generally are great family cars. Acres of space without being an obnoxious 4x4 or boring estate.

Can you tell I've just bought one? (Not an STi, though)

Mine's only a UK spec GLS Auto. Don't know the MPG as I'm only picking it up in the morning.

Bought it to replace the wife's 3dr Clio as we've just had a nipper, plus I wanted a bit of a load carrier for doing some hefty DIY plus duty as a parts chaser for an upcoming project

I'm doing the extended test drive on the XT on Monday so I'll let you know how it goes. Re mpg, EVO reported this model as 'liking its drink' which is what you'd expect from a reasonably heavy, high performance, 4WD car.

Can't speak for the others though.

Cheers

Yes, it likes its drink in the same way that an Impreza does, but it isn't much heavier - the Forester STi is 1490 Kg compared to the current Impreza at 1395 Kg. Probably lighter than many of its competitors, and definitely high performance. The different gearing on the XT may make it drink more.

Regarding the practical side, this link shows some side-by-side comparisons between the Forester, Impreza Wagon and Legacy Outback:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=689844
Forester looks like a good bet for popping down B&Q for flooring and stuff, as well as avoiding the unwanted attention that Imprezas often get.

Edited to add:
According to Subaru Japan:
Impreza STi: 10.4 Km/l
Impreza WRX: 11.8 Km/l
Forester STi: 10.0 Km/l

(that's using the Japanese method which probably doesn't compare to the way they do it here, conversion using http://www.teaching-english-in-japan...ters_per_liter
of 10 km/l is 28.24 mpg)
The subaru.co.uk site shows the fuel consumption of the Forester XT 2.5 as 25.7 mpg and the Impreza STi Type UK as 25.4 mpg, so that might give a better indication.
