Default How can you reset the CEL ???????

As above, on a MY 02. heard it was 10 restarts.and do you have to do it all at once,ie can you just drive normally and it goes out after 10 starts.

thanks in advance,

Usually caused by removal of one or more cats off the car. Happened to me b4 and the only way is to pop to the dealer and get it reset. It will only take few minutes. Buy a cel fix.

On my MY01, it went out after 5 starts and that was just normal driving, start stop. You can disconnect the battery for an hour or so that clears the ECU also

Best to check what the CEL was caused by. Drop into your local scooby dealer and get it plugged into a select monitor. P0420 is the cat below efficiency code mentioned above.

AFAIK unplugging the battery does not re-set the ECU on the MY01 onwards as the CEL code is stored along with historic codes on the ECU itself, but I might be wrong.

Midlife is correct, this needs checking out.

There are 100's of different reasons why a CEL could illuminate. Some of these may be trivial and some definately are not!!!!!!!!!!

Far better to find out the true reason for the fault by getting it checked rather than just extinguishing the CEL light.

Just my 2p worth

If you've got access to a laptop it's worth getting yourself one of these
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...944492117&rd=1 -

It cost me £36 and works great on scoobs. Tells you why the CEL is on and lets you reset the ECU/clear the fault.

Totaly agree with the above

I have a MY01 i removed the cats and the CEL light came on but only when i drove erraticaly i found that IMO the ecu learns as it goes reason i say this is that my light goes off at the next start if i have been driving normaly,I tend to ignore mine as i no the reason for it coming on,

YOU SHOULD HAVE IT CHECKED OUT IF YOU DONT NO THE REASON FOR IT COMING ON.

THE ABOVE IS MY OWN OPINION...

Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
The CEL light is not on atthe moment,it has came on 3 times in the last 3 years, the dealer said it is misfire in No's 2 and 3 and it is a known fault in my euro import ECU.
only happens in 4th gear.
At next service he reckons a nuetral switch will cure it.
he also said that it is doing no harm to the car, don't want to have to pop in to the garage to get it reset ,thats all.

cheers.
Mac.

He sounds like is is talking a load of b*llocks IMO. If you have a misfire you have a problem.

A neutral switch?

Jon.

This is the third thread in as many weeks that has suggested that a misfire in either 1,2,3 or 4 is down to a neutral switch.
All vehicles have been MY01/02 bugeyes.
Is there something that the dealers have been keeping from us?
