Red face Urgent Help - MOT tomorrow and strange noise!!

Hi guys,
I need to call on your expertise to help a man in need just before MOT. I am booked to go in tomorrow and my '95 RA has started making a clonking noise while turning and going forward and reversing slowly...sounds like its coming from the middle of the car underneath (perhaps prop shaft??)... doesnt happen when going straight.

Any ideas would be gratefully accepted!

Cheers

Sounds like a bearing in the gearbox mate, either that or your top mounts are dead.

If your car has dccd and it's not set to DIFF FREE when reversing you can get vibration or noise.

That could be...it is the adjustable diff, and when I turn on ignition it is set to the bottom setting - a green oval - is that DIFF FREE??
Cheers

Yep, when it's at the green light at the bottom it's DIFF FREE (used for normal driving or when towed). You would change the setting for different conditions eg. snow, gravel you would use DIFF LOCK (orange light with LOCK written on it)
