Default 24 Hour Test Drive - Any success

Has anyone managed to successfully book a 24 hour test drive using the online request form? I've tried twice without success. It's ok advertising in the press to try and improve sales but if you can't book a test drive, you may aswell not bother.

yep - they let me book 2 - one in the current MY04 STI, and another in the MY05 STI (when the dealer had one in stock)

Regrettably, I had to cancel due to unknown prior commitments. They've said "rebook whenever possible".

Not a problem

Aye, completed the online form on the Saturday night, got a call back on the Sunday morning - test drive taken in a WRX the following Wednesday, and now I'm hooked!

Booked over a week ago. Subaru rang me back within an hour to confirm but not had it yet. Chased them up but waiting on local Dealer. I hear on the grape vine that dealer is not happy to offer the service due to damage on a previous car. Seems silly to offer such a service and not back it up with the goods.

like supertouring, booked on the friday, called back sunday from scooby uk, "your dealer will be in touch"
Bollo*ks! Not heard from for 2 weeks, got back in touch with scooby uk, "we'll chase them up sir"
Still no call from *onks *eat*, finally, I called dealer direct, "sorry, scooby uk are not doing 24hr test drives in turbos"
wtf! "yes they are, it says so on your website"
"ah right, yes, your right, but ours is broken, and it's not an 05 sti either"
"would you like to come over for a normal 5 minute test drive when its fixed"

"er.................no!"

Not very impressed, especially as I was going to do over 500 miles this weekend to scotland and back

Very poor dealer customer care, but then I'd heard about them before I got my scooby, and have never been to them for so much as a bolt.

My dealer was the experiment for this (hence they're in all the cheesy press pictures) and they were pretty strict about who they let out.

Photo D/L and one other form of ID was the only thing they'd take.

They did knock back one of my mates (who already has a scoob!)

What was the excuse for knocking back your mate?

I can't remember, but we did let them off bearing in mind where the dealer is located. I've been there on a Sunday and all you see is chavs, timewasters & test pilots.

He has to get it wrong once in a while.

Booked for an STi 05 test drive last week and got a mail pack yesterday from Subaru - very quick reply. However, the mailpack only contained info on the 04 model which I'm not at all intertested in and which isn't the car I asked for a rest drive in, so really they've just wasted their time and money.

No call from my local dealer yet and I don't really expect one. After all, this is the same dealer that let me test drive 3 different WRX variants last year and couldn't be bothered to call me back the following day with a quote on the one I wanted. So I placed my order for my [then] new 03 wrx with a different dealer the following week.

To be honest, the service which I've had from Subaru and their dealers has so far been very, very unimpressive. They leave you feeling that they don't give a damn about you as a customer and couldn't give a toss whether you buy another Subaru again in the future. Still, if they offer me a test drive in an 05 STi I'll take them up on the offer :-)

SsssssssssHhhhhhhhhhh! You can't mention names

Seriously, I wonder why Subaru UK are bothering? It's just another way for their dealers to fall down, they (most of them) don't give a toss, the car still sells itself.

PS: Dogpole: if it's the ones in L*nc*ln, don't hold your breath

I eventually had a phone call from Subaru UK today, 5 days after submittimg my request. They confirmed I was old enough but then told me that my local dealer didn't have a WRX for me to have on a 24 test drive. I said I didn't mind travelling to another dealership further away to pick up a WRX but was then told that I can only test drive a car that is available at your local dealer!! How ridiculous is that. The reason for this policy is that they want you to buy from your local dealer so he will benefit from knowing the history of the car when you take back to them to be serviced.

Perhaps I should give up and go buy and Evo instead ,less hassle.

It would be nice to be able to organise a test drive with no hassle.

Funny thing happened today while at Dealers. Sales guy gets a phone call, and I could only hear one end of the converstation but it did make me laugh!

Caller - Can I book 24hr test drive?
Sales - What car are you intested in?
Caller - What have you got?
Sales - Forrester, Legacy, Impreza.
Caller - Which is the fastest?
Sales - No, we don't do 24hr test drives!!!!!!

They have now stopped doing them unless they are confident of a sale. They also limit the millage to 100 miles. Well done all those that got one, I never got mine
